The Parade

I was only a vessel that nature smilingly fills with new wine. An instrument to give an expression to what was mute and crystallizing what was latent. I was omniscient. l did not need a scheme to do my duty. A duty that l could do with the heavenly lightness of a little child. More so, l was there to move mountains to the right places. Where common hands fail, an invisible hand intervenes.

This day l joined hundreds of solders at a pass out parade. I walked to the visitors gallery to follow the proceeding. It was going to be a great day since that which must be said the nation must be said today. No more juggling around the important things. The nation needs to rediscover those precious values - that all reality is hinged on moral foundation. If we are to go forward, we need to name people by their proper names - a frog cannot be a fish ever! Injustice is injustice; there is no point in trying to be cosmetic about it. Pathetic lies must be confronted with disarming truth. No more hugging and kissing at the expense of the future. The secret wealth of the nation must be unlocked and restored.

Multitudes of people from all walks of life flocked to witness the sumptuous occasion. It was marked with massive military displays, well rehearsed marches among other fantastic displays. It was impressive.

The event went well until the time for speeches. That was the time l impatiently waited for. Nothing in this world is as important as giving a speech to the world. I was ready. Speaker after speaker emulated the discipline of the armed forces. Finally the microphone was to be handed to the guest of honour - a general- for final remarks. There and then, l turned into a cool breeze, entered into his body. He was under spell from that moment.

The general was such a hulk man, garrulous and boastful as well as dauntless tempers.

He started speech without wasting time and words;

Ladies and gentleman , it is my singular honour and privilege to present my speech to this august gathering on this historic event in the calendar of our military school, warm welcome to you all. As we gather here today to celebrate our achievements this year, we give thanks to GOD, for many gifts he has bestowed upon us especially the gift of life.

Today, these young soldiers have demonstrated a commitment to serve you the citizens. They have acquired not only a military understanding of things but even the will and the determination to use this understanding as an effective tool for human progress. A soldier is a worker, a servant of the people and their protector.

I would like to urge the young soldiers to desist from corruption. Corruption is satanic.

It is unfortunate that the scale of corruption in our country today is very high as a result of crooks running things behind the scenes; consequently our nation has fallen into the deepest depths of curse and disgrace. There is rampant corruption in our national institutions from government department, parastatals, local government and the private sector. All is done at the expense of good citizens. Our citizens are decent, in spite of all these terrible misdemeanors, you citizens have remained hopeful. Hopeful that one day the star will fall from heaven.

But l must put it straight before the nation that the military will not intervene when the goal oriented citizens decide to march against the crooks. Our positive duty is to defend the nation from external attacks and misfortunes. We refuse a government which is based on arrogance and class pride, in which citizens are the slaves of the money moguls and crooks.

Those thugs who think the military will protect them from public anger from now on - THINK again. It is always a responsible thing to end what you have started especially when it something harmful, not only to others but even to yourself. The powers of the masses are greater than any other powers in this world. We therefore as soldiers stand guided by this understanding, again we are very aware that our roots are heavily entrenched in the souls of our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. We came from the people and we remain with the people and the desire to see a better Bongasu republic.

Now, listen, you officers, soldiers in other nations remain loyal to the ideals and aspirations of citizens, they take the onus to identify themselves with these aspirations. There is no greater joy than that of serving your people, never to suppress the wishes of the majority for any reason. The only reason why you are a soldier today is to maintain the life and the very existence of our nation. Without this task you are almost irrelevant.

As you shall be performing your duty, l want you to know that there are 3 enemies which destroy a state beyond repair that is:

1) Corruption

2) Laziness and

3) Extravagant consumption

Corruption and laziness are like two wings of the same bird flying it straight into the brick wall.

Corruption undermine the legitimacy of a government, create anarchy and subversion of democracy.it degrade the work of other members in the society. One must earn merit through service. A person must distinguished by the results of his labour. That is a sure sign of character and value of a person.

As l concludes, l urges you to stand ready on the firing line fearless face corruption and its social ills. You must know that any good policy, or work programs, carried and implemented by corrupt people are like a castle in the air, a mere fantasy and a blank page. It is therefore with some sense of urgency that they be a systematic to elimination - crooks, thugs, fraudsters, money launders, night judges, fake police, indecent civil servants and money mongers - from circulation of our national blood

Thank you, may God bless you all.

The obscene language is excluded from the speech

He received a standing ovation; many considered the remarks wise, mature and very responsible. His speech reached and touched the secret corners and the deepest depths of the peoples hearts. He brings to expression in a broad daylight that which others say only during the night.

I remain in control of the general until the evening for l knew the crooks will try to harm him. It can be expected in a country where corruption is rampant and those practicing it would boast and take pride in doing so. In such an environment talking about corruption would be considered as something sacrosanct or akin to heresy.

That night as l had expected two men break into the general's house. Their motor van parked a few distant from the house. They cleverly by passed the security; no doubt they were trained hit men. However at one stage they puzzled to learn that the Dura wall was as soft as the breast of a woman. They were in a hurry though, wearing mask like Spiderman. It was time to unmask and expose the rascals.

Inside the house looked quiet and deserted. They searched room by room and found no one. They heard foot steps and whispers, and tried to trace the sounds in vain. At times it would appear as if the noise is from the bathroom. The more they get closer, the sounds cleared away like a disappearing mist to emerge elsewhere in another room. That was the moment the pair started to panic and sensed danger.

Let move out , one shouted

That was the moment they realized that they were shut in a hovel. But was it too late?

Another one screamed in desperation how are we ever to get out of this cage?

Wait a bit said the other, we will find our way sure enough

Suddenly the doors opened, two rowdy baboons entered with and started to beat the men thoroughly. They were beaten like hell, and suffered serious injuries on their clothes. The trousers were torn apart. The baboons adopted this formula so that they could show the most important parts of the men`s body as we knew them to be, not just as we saw them in a fleeting glance.
