Chapter 10

…..show up. And he did. The door cracked open and I heard his footsteps echo as he dragged his slippers through the hallways. He leaned against the door and raised his eye-brows. "Whatcha up to Miss peeping-tom?" He put on a smirk and wriggled his eye-brows. I stuck my tongue at him and he walked in. I was sitting on the floor, my back to the wall beneath the window and hugging my legs. He sat down beside me, still grinning. "Did you like your view?" he asked, a smug look on his face. I rolled my eyes and avoided his gaze. "Not funny," I mumbled. He chuckled. "I'll take that as a yes." He laughed under his breath. I looked at him. He looked good when he laughed.

Stop. Just stop. Just don't.

I buried my face in my arms and shook my head. That was embarrassing. I was practically screaming internally so loud that I hoped he didn't hear me. He poked me. "What's wrong?" he asked. "Nothing!" I blurted out. "Really?" he asked, nudging my arm with his nose. I could hear him smirk. I raised my head. He laughed. I looked at him and scowled. "What?" I asked, confused. He continued laughing. I blinked at him. "Can ghosts blush?" he asked, giggling a little. I looked at the mirror and it showed me the exact reason why he was laughing. Surprisingly, very surprisingly, I was blushing. I don't have blood!! (but I do have veins which is weird, I know.) "I-" Nothing was there to explain. It was so embarrassing!!

Sam stared at me and I avoided his eyes. "I'm not surprised though. A lot of girls like me." He had his smug look on again. I'm telling you, he has a lot of pride. I shook my head. He leaned against me and sighed happily. "You love teasing me, don't you?" I asked. "It's fun and entertaining. I can't lie about that." He smiled a toothy smile. "Like Uncle, like nephew." I groaned. "Thank you for the compliment." "The pleasure was mine," I answered sarcastically.

Sam was still leaning against me. He wasn't really heavy. He looked down at my hand. "I never see your vein in day. Why?" he asked, holding my hand and raising my arm. He observed it with utter curiosity, turning my hand around. I smiled. "I really don't know. They always pop out at night and disappear by day. I find it very queer if you ask me. Don't you?" I looked at him and he nodded. "Do they have any special ability or power or something?" he asked and I giggled. "Not really." He scowled. "Would've been cool though. Like in books and movies. But what would they have as an ability?" he looked at me and grinned. I thought for a few second. I always wanted a superpower. I found them very interesting when David showed me some movies. I was absolutely intrigued. "How about this: I can make my blood flow out of my veins and they would turn into rope kind of thing. I would have to learn to control them, like martial arts, you know!" The thought of it was very exciting. Having superpowers would be so much fun!

Sam smiled at me and patted my head. "I guess you're still a kid." "Do I look like a kid to you?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. He nodded and smiled. I shook my head. "I'm like a hundred years older than you, mister, so don't even think about calling me that," I warned him and he flashed a smile again. "I called you that because after all these years, you still have a mind to be creative and imaginative. I almost thought you had grown up too fast to even be excited like a small kid. It felt good to see you like that," he explained. I stared at him in awe.

I realized no one actually called me a kid before. Not even David. I was one of those people who grew up too fast, more like had to grow up too fast. Growing up in a pit of darkness from the time you're born wouldn't let you stay a kid for too long. It was hard to keep sane, let alone be childish. I sighed and he scowled at me. I looked at him and poked his forehead. "Why the frown?" "Why the sigh?" We both looked at each other and I shook my head. "I was reminded of some memories that weren't really pleasant but they're gone now." I grinned up at him and he nudged me with his head. "Sorry if it was my fault. I didn't mean it." I giggled. "It wasn't, don't worry." He smiled and stood up. "I'll go now. Sleep early today and no peeping," he said as he walked to the door. He turned back and smiled. I smiled back.
