Chapter 35: Earthquake

[It's coming!]

[Is it really happening now? So sudden!]

[It's over, these two are unprepared and have nothing ready.]

[Go and hide, just stand here waiting to be bitten by zombies?]

[Ask for protection.]

On the playground, as Fu Ying was about to run towards the dormitory, Li Yanqian immediately grabbed her.

"The safest place during an earthquake is in open areas like playgrounds." Li Yanqian said.

"Yes! Did I faint? Why was I going to the dormitory?" Fu Ying muttered to herself.

"Let's wait here for a while. Maybe it will be over soon." Li Yanqian suggested. Although she appeared calm, Fu Ying noticed that she was already sweating on her hands.

Boom!

A male dormitory building near the playground suddenly collapsed!

Immediately after, the two were unsure if they were trembling or if the surrounding buildings were shaking. Countless people ran into the playground from the entrance, screaming and crying. Behind them, buildings kept collapsing.

"Gu Yao, Gu Yao, and the others are still in the dormitory!" Fu Ying looked at the tragic scene not far away. It was evident that many students were still trapped in the building.

"But even if we rush back now, we won't be able to squeeze in," Li Yanqian said, observing the panicked crowd. Most of the girls were still in their pajamas. In the chaotic crowd, people pushed forward without caring about those they knocked down. Under these circumstances, there was no way for them to return to the dormitory.

"I hope Gu Yao and the others are okay." Fu Ying realized that being anxious was futile. She could only hope that Gu Yao would manage to escape quickly.

However, Gu Yao's situation at that moment wasn't favorable.

Their dormitory was on the seventh floor, quite a distance away. When the earthquake struck, both Gu Yao and Ren Yulan were in the dormitory, trembling with fear as they hid under a corner of the table.

"Why is there an earthquake in Nancheng? Should we run to the playground now?" Gu Yao vaguely remembered the earthquake knowledge she learned in elementary school, but the shaking of the dormitory building was too intense, and Fu Ying's bed was on the ground floor.

"I dare not move. My legs are weak!" Ren Yulan's voice trembled, and amidst the violent shaking, Gu Yao crawled to the window. Her eyes widened as she looked outside.

The dormitory building next to them had collapsed onto their own building, crushing the side below the third floor entirely!

"Gu Yao, what happened?" Ren Yulan remained huddled under the corner of the table, hearing the intensifying screams from all directions.

"We need to find a way to get out. The next-door... the dormitory building next door collapsed!" Gu Yao panted then stumbled to put on her sneakers. She didn't bother changing out of her long-sleeved pajamas and pants, but she couldn't run in slippers.

"No, no, I can't run. Let's find a place to hide first, okay?" Ren Yulan stretched out her arm and held onto Gu Yao tightly, as if afraid she would flee.

"I'll help you run! Change your shoes quickly! It's okay, everyone is running outside," Gu Yao reassured. She noticed that Ren Yulan had surprising strength and wouldn't let go no matter how hard she struggled.

Boom!

The closet beside Fu Ying's wall crashed to the ground, clothes and bags scattered. Suddenly, a steel bar unexpectedly flew out of the wall, hitting the waist of where Fu Ying would be if she were on her bed.

...

It's unfortunate, but at least Fu Ying isn't here... Gu Yao thought.

The two stared blankly for a couple of seconds. Gu Yao became even more determined to escape. Despite being almost a head shorter, she dragged Ren Yulan out from under the table.

"Don't worry, I'll get you out," Gu Yao had a determined expression.
