Chapter 12: A Meeting of Marriage

Before he could do something incredibly stupid for the entire street to see, Zane gracefully deposited Sera onto her feet. But damn, she was looking at him with absolute wonder. It made him want to crush his lips to hers as close as humanly possible.

His jaw ticked as she snapped from her stupor. Immediately flustered, she stepped back from him.

“Are you trying to get yourself killed?” his voice was low and strained.

“I’m sorry,” she bowed her head slightly, nervously pushing her hair behind her ears. “Do you like it?” she added in a small voice.

Zane glanced up at the sign to avoid showing her the depths of his feelings. He liked it. He liked it too much.

“It’s fine,” he countered. He glanced at her sullen features, “better than fine,” he continued, furious at how much he wanted to see her face fill with joy. “Thanks.”

Her eyes lit up and Zane’s heart was once again pounding against his chest.

“You’re welcome.”
