Chapter 23: Seaside Sentiments

They’d somehow managed to find shelter in a hollowed out oak on the edge of the teeming marsh lands. The cacophony of the night rose around them as all sorts of howls, clicking, shrieking and various footsteps echoed throughout the boggy land.

Sera felt herself jumping at every sound and asking Zane to explain what each one was. She had to admit, his patience with her was astounding. He carefully described each of the creatures she heard moving about in the darkness around them. She’d asked him if he wanted her to start a fire and remove some of the damp chill from their bones, but Zane insisted they stay in the dark to avoid attracting any unwanted attention.

“We're being hunted,” he reminded her. Zane's eyes narrowed as he recalled how their morning started, "Besides, haven't you had your fill of arson for the day?"
