Information Obtained

Miriam nodded. She'd gotten the information she needed and just wanted to get back to work. Now. Her business needed her more than Joe did.

Josh held out his hand. "Thank you for coming, Ms. Stokes."

Miriam clasped it. "Thank you for letting me mourn in private."

He nodded and released her. "Can I drop you somewhere?"

"My car's right here," she said indicating her blue BMW.

"Oh, right. Follow us out. There's a private entrance in the back. The press may not know about it."

"Thanks. I've had enough of the jackals for a lifetime," she murmured.

She heard him chuckle and wondered if he knew of her connection to Mark. She shrugged off the idea. No one who knew her as Miriam Stokes, knew to whom she'd been married.

Kelly handed her a stack of messages when she returned to her office. "How was the funeral?"

Bedecked in a china blue pantsuit, Kelly looked ready for a date.

"Okay. I chatted with the mayor."

"Yeah? Find out anything?"

"Nah," Miriam lied.
