Chapter 65: She Feels Better

Jake put a hand out. “You don’t look fine.” She shooed it away and stood though not on strong legs. “Did I hurt you?” Jake asked.

“No.”

“Maybe you need to eat,” Jake suggested.

Her eyes went sharp again. “I’m not a child,” she said through gritted teeth.

He brought his face close to hers. “Then be mature enough to know your limits.”

Chelsea wasn’t going to admit he’d been right. With a full stomach, she did feel much better. Okay, maybe she should tell him. She didn’t want to fight with Jake. He meant well.

“You look better,” he said from the doorway.

She swallowed. “You were right.” There, she said it and lightning hadn’t struck her down.

He didn’t gloat, just shrugged and moved toward her. Into her personal space like he belonged there.

Maybe he did.

“You needed food. Your eyes glaze over when that happens,” he explained.

He nudged her feet and sat in front of her on the window seat.
