They Talk

“The Prosecutor thinks so.”

“I hear the doubt in your voice.”

Jen disentangled herself from him and stood. Wrapping her arms around herself she walked away. “Did you read the letter?”

“As much as I could without touching it.”

“The letterhead is from a hotel next to the bar we staked out.” Saying it out loud sent chills down her spine.

Sean leaned his elbows on his knees. “Did you think it was the same killer before you got here?”

“No. Just a coincidence.”

“And now?”

She swallowed turning to face him. “I have no doubt it is the same man.”

Machines beeped and kept time with Cam’s heart rate and breathing. Sean stood in the doorway composing himself.

Anger mixed with shock in his mind. He’d looked up to Cam as a mentor. A role model. And Cam had managed to disappoint.

Gladstone interviewed Cam earlier, but Sean wanted to hear the words himself. With Jen safely tucked at the office, he made the three block trek to the hospital.
