“There must be a dozen agents, at least as good as me, bucking for my job.”
Walter frowned. “I don’t want them I want you.”
Jen crossed her arms. “What if I don’t want to come back?”
Surprise registered on his face. “Not come back?”
“Yeah.” She waved a hand at the piles of papers. “I’ve been trying to write my resignation all day.”
He blinked and stood pacing away from her. “I don’t understand.”
“Let me say it clearly. I don’t want to come back.”
“I guess if you resigned we could sweep it all under the rug. Honestly I’m at a loss. Why don’t you want to come back?”
“Because I was never cut out for law enforcement.
