Another Suspect

Jennifer stretched and yawned looking forward to sweatpants and a glass of wine. She smiled at the thought of curling up on the couch with Sean. She glanced at him as he gripped the steering wheel. He did most things with that intense look on his face. She could imagine him as a child coloring with his brow furrowed. His gaze never wavered from the road. “Penny for your thoughts?” His glance her way surprised her.

“Ken,” was all he said or needed to say.

Tomorrow they would bury someone who was extremely important to them and she wondered if she would be okay with the services. They seemed to share this grief if nothing else.

Jennifer closed her eyes then opened them in amazement when she realized Sean wasn’t taking her home. He should have driven back to her hotel, but instead they were heading west. “Where are we going?”

“To dinner by the river. My father used to take me to watch it flow by when I was a kid.”
