She's Okay

Jen was okay.

Relief coursed through Sean as he paced the green hallway at Centre Community Hospital. Only a flesh wound. The bullet grazed her and she might need stitches. That’s all.

A commotion at the front desk drew Sean’s attention. A bear of a man argued with the receptionist.

“My daughter is here and I demand to see her.” The brown-haired man stood ready to bypass her as if he expected to be obeyed.

“First, you have to tell me who your daughter is.”

A sheepish grin formed on the man’s face. “Jenny O’Grady.”

Jenny? Sean didn’t think of Jen as a “Jenny.” Was this Jet Anderson her step-father?

“You are?” The receptionist asked. She stood dwarfed by his size and maybe even his deep, booming voice.

“Jet Anderson,” he said as if his name alone should explain everything.

“Mr. Anderson, Ms. O’Grady is being examined. You can wait in our waiting room.

Jet glanced in the direction she pointed then shook his head. “I’ll wait outside her room. The number?”
