Chapter 8 - Goddess and blessing
"Okay. So what is happening?"
I stared at the gray coloured font—the goddess of life and death.
I decided to voice my opinion to practice my vocal skills. I wouldn't want to meet other people with a rough voice.
[... You encountered something out of your league, and I'm here to fix your current schedule of events]
The goddess paused for a second. I think she heard my inner complaining.
[I gave you a hidden passive status [Charm], but it's limited]
"Eh. Wait a minute. What?"
[This is an RPG influenced world. 99% of the monsters here are aggressive toward humans]
"... Uh."
[So do you understand? All the monsters here are not attacking you because you have [Charm] always active]
"But... But—the tutorial didn't say anything about that!"
[I'm going to scold that failure of a goddess later. For now, I'm going to extend the duration of the passive skill [Charm] for another week. Use that to level up and acquire skills]
"Thank you goddess, but I have a request."
I bowed at the status window.
[... What is it? Remember, this is the last time I'm helping you. I'll give that goddess a taste of inferno later]
I started producing cold sweat like an overworked factory, but I still opened my mouth to talk, albeit shakily.
"Can I have at least a sword as a weapon for the monsters? This might be too difficult for me..."
[Nevermind. You still have one request for me. That goddess forgot to give you a weapon of your choice]
[I'll put an iron sword in your item box. There's a tiny bonus there as an apology]
The moment the goddess finished the sentence, a notification window appeared in front of me.

"Yes!"
I immediately accepted with any hesitation. Who wouldn't be excited? That's a sword!

I stared at the weapon window with excitement. A cheat... Hehe..
[Stop grinning. That's creepy]
A forceful status window appeared in my vision, waking me up from my stupor.
"Kuhum. I'm sorry. I just got too excited."
I coughed to disperse the bubbling atmosphere, a red tint of a blush creeping on my face.
[Don't do that again when I'm here. Anyway, you still have one request for me, but that will come later]
"Yes ma'am."
[I advice you to learn [Slash] first before other skills. The sooner you level up, the better]
[Slash] huh? I'll have to do practice swings then.
"Thank you goddess, can I ask a question?"
[You just did, but just this once]
I snickered. I didn't know the goddess could practice humour with a human.
"W-well. What type of barrier is the [Status eating barrier]?"
[I have lived longer than you. Of course I know humour. You don't like it?]
... I like it.
[Hmph. It's a dome type barrier. I know what you're trying to do, but I don't recommend that]
I scratched my cheek, embarrassed.
There are three types of barrier.
[Personal], [Global], and [Dome]
Just like what it says, [Personal] is for the caster only.
Square, circle, sphere, any kinds of shape as long it's just protecting the user.
[Global] is global. Literally global. It can turn into anything.
It can protect a village from attacks in the air and underground. All encompassing.
[Dome] is a big bowl of barrier upside down, planted on the ground.
This type of barrier is generally used to protect the inside or the outside of 'anything'. Like forests or mountains.
It's a dome, there's a flaw. A big flaw that a city could be destroyed in if the monsters discovered them.
You could dig underground to avoid the barrier. That's what I plan to do by asking what type of barrier it is.
I'm still weak though.
[That's why you need to level up first. You can't even cross the first magic phenomenon in the forest. You're still level one]
I sighed. The goddess is right.

There's new things that I wasn't notified about. Did the UI just update without any notification?
[Blessings] should be the characteristics (skills) a god gave a human.
[Character points] is should be status points in this world.
My head hurts. I turned to look at the gray letters.
[I'm going. I still have work to do. You have a request from me, so you can call me whenever you want]
"Wait. Really?"
[Just don't call me without any reason. I still have work to do]

The gray letters disappeared into nothingness after that.
Looks like I have a one time use cheat now.

I still have a week for the grind.
I have to prepare for the worst. If the charm skill didn't work, then I'll be totally dead by I approach one monster.
I don't have any experience in fighting. The child fights I attended in earth are all harmless pushing and cursing.
I wish the first fight I do is with a slime, but I'm in the forest. They live in the plains...
Tomorrow will be my first fight.
I remembered the condition for the [Slash] skill.
[Condition: Do a satisfactory slashing motion to completion. 0/1000]
[The system will judge the rate of completion. No cheating is allowed]
Even in descriptions. There's no cheats. As expected of the world where I'm average.
The goddess also didn't mention anything about that "place", so it looks like it's just beyond my league for now.
