Chapter 5: King Levin

Levin's P.O.V

Smokes, falling debris, shattered glasses, blood, and dead bodies.

All can be seen in one view.

The most devastating sight I've ever seen...

Are my Mother and Father lying on the floor lifelessly.

I ran to my parents and hug their corpses and cry in mercy.

I was supposed to be happy and have a perfect childhood as a three-year-old. But it was over quickly after the war. Even though I am the Crown Prince, my parents spoiled me when they were still alive. I don't remember anything since I was a toddler, but I knew I was happy when I was with them.

But the clearest event from my childhood is I witnessed the death of my parents.

I didn't eat in a day and locked myself inside my chamber. I hear the butlers and servants countlessly knocking on the door, trying to convince me to get out and have a meal.

On that day, I heard a few big footsteps outside as I heard Grandfather and speaks to warn me that they will crash my door. In fear, I voluntarily opened the door as Brother Ephraim ran towards me then hugs me whilst caressing my back.

"Levin, don't cry. Big Brother is here."

12 years later, Grandfather died. The Physician said it was a heart attack. Grandfather's funeral was public. Monarchy officials were gathered here as well as the high nobles, consorts, and the laws. It was just years ago after the death of my Father as the former King yet now, another King died. But the night before his death, Grandfather called me into his chamber and gave me a piece of paper. He said that I should open it when I reach my chamber but I forgot it.

After 5 hours of the funeral, he got buried down beside Mother and Father's grave. I go straight into my chamber to find the paper and saw it inside the pocket of my pants in the laundrette.

The paper looks ordinary and thin. Not the usual silk papers or any luxurious papers I have always seen. And It was written with a red tint.

"Take care of your Brother." I read it in a whisper.

"I know Grandpa." as I smile.

A tap from my shoulder made me surprised and saw Brother behind me.

"Can you at least knock before you enter?"

"Apologies, Your Majesty. But your door is widely open." he chuckles.

"Your Majesty?" I confusingly asked.

"It seems like Little Brother doesn't know it yet."

"Huh?" he pulls me out of my chamber with his arms around my shoulder dragging me to our lounge area and then points out the large picture frame at the top of the fireplace.

A big decent photo of mine wearing a crown and a King's cape.

"That photo was taken two weeks ago before Grandpa's death." I commented.

"As a preparation of becoming the King." he added as he looks at me.

"Tomorrow is the big day, Levin."

••••••••••

I am just 15 years old when I was crowned as the new King of Mondreich. I continued what my Grandfather left as I became a whole different me.

I know that my people gossips about me but I'm used to it. Some said I'm a terrifying man. I can't deny it of course it's true. I'm cold and still in rage because of the trauma in my past. Brother is the only person that is on my side.

"Your Majesty, your medicine is here." Brother Ephraim said as soon as he entered.

I get headaches from time to time, so I'm constantly taking medications from my doctor. I went to the doctor the first week it happened to me, and he just said it was due to stress, so he gave my doctor some prescriptions to relieve the headache.

"Quit the formality, Brother." I peevishly said.

"Why so short-tempered." he said as he put the medicine in front of me.

"And why did you deliver my medicine? The handmaids or the butlers can do their job. I told you to rest. We both know that it's not good for your heart."

"Calm down. I didn't do anything exhausting ventures." as he sat down in the chair.

"Then what if you're walking while carrying this and fell prostrate on the floor? My medicine is liquid with hot water. You'll get burned--"

"Wait wait, that's too situational. Let's just not think about it, okay?" I just facepalmed at his stubbornness.

"Or you possibly need something from me? Just say it and I'll give it to you."

"What am I? A spoiled brat?"

"I can read you by telepathy."

"What nonsense is that?"

"Just say it. You're wasting my time." I continued to write then saw him at the corner of my eye, stands up from his seat, and walk towards me.

"I am just visiting you. It's already past midnight and you're still here in your office, not yet bathed. That's why you always have headaches. Staying up all night is not healthy."

"Right back at you." I dissed.

"Now look who's more stubborn." I heard him sigh.

"Brother, I'm finishing up these pending projects, and it's almost done."

"Okay. Get ready to bed now after that." he said while exiting my workroom.

"Mhm." I didn't hear the door closed so I lift my head and saw him peeking.

"Take care of yourself too."

"That sounds creepy. You should have said that before you go out!" I shouted as it echoed in the whole room. He playfully chuckles as he closed the door.

"Your Majesty." a man with the black coat called.

"Any news?" I asked him while staring at the window with my back facing him.

"The Princess has been informed about the discussion with you earlier with the Imperial Majesty of Starnstadt." he replied as I smirked.

"May I ask if there's anything I could do?"

"Just take care of her and I will let you know my next pace." he bows then leaves.

"Havoc." I called my valet.

"Yes, Your Majesty?"

"Prepare the carriage."
