Chapter 74: A Spar

Another busy work week. One of the four busiest months of the year for me, so you guys know the drill.

I will try to post chapters when I can, writing schedule should return to normal once its January.

Go enjoy time with your family, happy holidays!

In the meantime, don't forget to drop those power stones!

"You used to be a part of a military here in Kanto, right, Lieutenant Surge?", I asked him seriously.

"What of it? I used to fight in wars alongside Pokemon years ago. A baby like you wouldn't stand a chance in the military haha!", Lieutenant Surge said, letting out a laugh. This caused the other Trainers laugh after him. I didn't get embarrassed by his answer either, I only smiled in response.

"I have zero interest in any military. I only asked because of your answer, you've participated in many battles?"

"I have."

"Would you be interested in a spar then?", I asked him straight on.

"A spar? With a puny baby like you?", Lieutenant Surge retorted.

Before I knew it, he walked right up to my face. To be honest, with him like this in front of me now, it was quite overbearing. I was 6'5, which was quite tall, but he was on a whole another level. He was literally two feet higher than me, and his build was a lot more muscular. It was clear he trained a lot, and probably did so frequently with his Raichu.

Sure, I was shown the underworld during my ten year stay in Alola, receiving training from Master Hobbes along the way, but without that, I used to be a mere white collar office worker.

It's a shame I had yet to learn the use of Aura. I learned early on that this technique was not for just anyone. In fact I don't even know anyone who currently has learned it. Only a handful of people ever revealed to use Lucario in the anime as well, mainly being Maylene, Korrina, Riley, and actually Ash himself.

Ash was quite a lucky bastard to receive a Riolu egg in Journeys. He had deepened his bond so much with Riolu that when it evolved into Lucario, Ash learned how to use Aura to know wherever his Lucario was. This was shown when he was searching for Lucario's Mega Stone.

Using Aura inwardly and passively like that is completely different than trying to use it in actual fighting. Ash didn't even know what technique Aura was when that happened.

So calling it rare was a big understatement. I could only catch a Riolu myself to further experience it I guess.

But that aside, I still think I could match up against Lieutenant Surge, but if I get my ass beat, I wouldn't complain. I hadn't fought many people before this, so I don't know where my strength currently laid.

Only a moment passed in silence before I saw Lieutenant Surge smile.

"Haha! A spar huh? I got fired up earlier knowing I would get three challengers today. Why not? A fight is still a fight, no matter if we use Pokemon or not. I still won't go easy on ya though kid.", Lieutenant Surge answered, padding my shoulder a couple times as he laughed.

"We're three adults, you know that right?", I retorted back.

"I always call a loser a baby and someone whose younger than me a kid. If ya got a problem with dat, you can try beating it out if me!", Lieutenant Surge answered with a grin.

This brought in some more laughter from the trainers around him, while one of them raised a concerned voice.

"Eh, boss, are ya sure it's fine for ya to be doin' a fight before a Pokemon battle?"

"It'll be fine. We could always push it back a day should we need tome to recover. Are ya guys fine with dat?", Lieutenant Surge asked.

"I don't mind. I don't see this spar lasting that long.", I answered. Lillie and Serena also shook their heads.

"I do have one request though.", I continued to say.

"Oh? What would dat be?"

"Would it be fine for the Pokemon I'll be using today to watch this spar? I've been teaching it a certain move since we came from Cerulean City.", I explained.

"So dat's how it is. Dat's fine with me. For the actual gym battle, it'll be a one on one with the three of you. So each of ya will only use one Pokemon. As for my partner, come on out, Raichu!", Lieutenant Surge explained, only for him to toss out his Pokeball.

A huge electric mouse-like Pokemon appeared before us. One that looked very similar to the Pokemon back in Professor Oak's lab when I chose Squirtle. And one similar to the very same Pokemon Ash's main Pokemon is.

"Raichu!", Raichu yelled out, puffing out its chest the moment it appeared. Raichu was the evolved form of Pikachu!

"As expected, it's Raichu.", I uttered. "Since you showed yours Lieutenant Surge, I'll take that as a yes. Come on out.", I replied. I grabbed one of my Pokeballs, and tossed it into the air.

A shiny animation glittered the moment the Pokemon came out, only to reveal a green and black bee-like creature.

"Beedrill!", Beedrill yelled out, facing Raichu not too far away. It's wings started to rapidly flutter, constantly moving around. It then looked around for a bit, and saw me. Beedrill then quickly flew to my side.

Lieutenant Surge's eyes quickly focused on the Beedrill that appeared.

"An alternate colored Beedrill? Looks pretty strong too. And seeing ya have that Mega Ring...A Mega Beedrill, huh?", Lieutenant Surge asked.

'So you were quick to tell eh? That's right.", I explained back. I then turned toward my Beedrill and spoke out again.

"Beedrill, you know the move I've been trying to teach you right? Follow my movements I'm going to use against Lieutenant Surge.", I said to Beedrill.

"Beedrill!", Beedrill yelled back in confirmation.

"Are ya ready to lose, baby?", Lieutenant Surge asked. I then saw him start to crack his neck.

"As if.", I retorted back, only to take off my shirt. My tan skin revealed itself, showing that I had a bit of muscle. It was far from Lieutenant Surge though, who had packed muscles everywhere. Most of the training I did was done internally, which meant I had a lot more energy stored inside that I could unleash.

Seeing the two of us ready ourselves, Raichu and Beedrill looked on in anticipation.

"Kick his ass, Itsuki!", Serena cheered on with a curse. I almost tumbled over hearing that, but I continued to look at Lieutenant Surge.

As for Lillie she stayed quiet as she watched me, without blinking her eyes. 'Let's see if Hobbes hadn't been wasting his time...', Lillie retorted inside her mind.

The closest Trainer approached the side, and spoke out to start our spar.

"This will be a spar between the Vermillion City's Gym Leader, Lieutenant Surge and one of today's three challengers, Itsuki! Strikes to the head and to the groin are forbidden. Any attempt to do so will be an automatic disqualification. The rest of the body is free game.", the Trainer said, explaining the rules.

"Let this spar begin!", the Trainer announced.

After he did, the field turned quiet. Lieutenant Surge shifted his body, and raised both of his arms. He crouched his shoulders a bit, formally entering a boxing stance, ready to take a jab at me.

As for me, I rotated my right leg back, to where my body lined up vertically to Lieutenant Surge. Only my left shoulder now pointed at him. I hid my right hand behind back, and raised my left arm up, forming a fist and extended it out. My stance appeared similar to that of Sebas from Overlord.

We now waited to see who was going to strike first!
