beginning of part two - sparking steel
It had to rain. Jey couldn’t meet T any other way, and they knew that. Even before they opened their front door--their own front door, what an achievement!--they knew that it was raining. They’d been listening to the lashing downpour cascade onto their roof--again, their own roof!--for the last half hour. It showed no sign of ceasing.

They wouldn’t go as far as defining anything as positive or negative, but there was a great deal of complex energy standing on their doorstep. Nevertheless, they battled their nervousness and opened it, just a crack.
