Even though they had only lived in the house that they now knew as home for a few months, Jey already had a favourite perch by the window in the living-room. It was the nicest spot in the house, they thought - it seemed like someone had cared about it, unlike everything else.

Someone had cared enough to create a little nook below the window. It was formed into the wall, and had faded upholstery with two grey cushions seated on either side of it. Jey liked to sit with one of the cushions supporting their back, while they peered outside and watched life unfold on the quiet street that they now lived on.
