Chapter 33: Assaulter

I was very uncomfortable as I watched Jayce and Hailey get into that capsule and leave. That was my daughter and she was with a guy I barely knew, let alone trusted. In the past forty-eight hours, so much has happened between Hailey and men. I’m surprised she climbed in there in the first place. However, I do suppose that we are in a survival of the fittest kind of situation. Hailey was smart, at least most of the time, so I trusted that she’d do whatever she saw fit.

I was so lost in my own thoughts of concern that I had completely blocked out Alice. Not that it mattered much seeing as she wasn’t paying attention to me either. It seemed that in our heads, we each had our own little world of problems. We try to push them to the back of our heads so that we can be there for one another, but the wave of worry comes back and you can’t get out of the way in time, so you have to ride it out.
