The harvest you must ask. Well, it is a stupid ritual that is done to appease the ancestors. To ensure the continuous flow of grounded magic from the earth. Earth magic, is safe magic that doesn't tolerate dark death spells.
It is old magic mixed in with the new and grounded by the ancestors to ensure it is not used to create havoc in the world.
I can't bring myself to explain how annoying the ceremony is. The witches select seven girls and let them be sacrificed to purify magic for better use.
The girls are killed off and buried in the ancestral cemetery for four seven days and nights. That is when they are brought back to life by the ancestors. They are allowed unspeakable magic and power but with a price.
I massages my temples, thinking about the harvest was giving me a headache. It is during this period that the whispers of the dead are heard even louder. For someone with super hearing, that is nothing but torture.
If possible, I would like to be further away from this place as possible. But I have to watch over Bella and have to handle the whole mate thing. So leaving town is not an option at this moment.
"This is crazy," I found myself saying. The headache was only growing stronger.
It was morning already and I have not the time to relax. My mind has been full since last night, the problems in my life keep pilling up without giving me a minute to catch my breath. It was so suffocating.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knock on the door forced me to avert my gaze from the window to the door. I drew a deep catching the scent of my aunt. Which reminded me that I had still not figured out how we were related before I died.
She clearly knows me but from where and how was the problem. Until I figured that out, I will forever have to he careful around her. I won't be able to let my guard down around her, especially when her touch can trigger my transformation.
"Come in," I announced loud enough for her to hear. She opened the door and walked in, her face looked worried and I couldn't tell why.
"You have guests," she said.
My heart skittered. I was new in town and I hardly knew anyone in Saffron falls. The only people I know are my cousins and they could hardly count for guests since they live in the same house as me.
"What?!" I asked shocked. I looked for traces in her face that she might be playing games with me but she looked serious. Uncomfortable even, whoever it may be was making her unsettled.
I sat up on the bed and sighed. I slowly put on my sandals before moving towards the door. I motioned for her to lead the way, she made a u turn and started walking away.
I followed behind her silently. My nose picked up scents that I have never smelled before. And one that was quite familiar to me. I could smell the vampire mate of mine in the living with a couple of more people.
My body tensed.
"You can go in," aunt stated to me. I released the breath I was holding and marched into the room. My eyes scanned around the room, I could spot four girls and four boys in the room. They looked the same age as me and Bella.
"You wanted to see me?" I asked in a tired tone. My body was exhausted, pleading me to return to bed and enjoy some nice long nap.But with everything going on in my head, that wont be possible even if I go to bed.
"Yes, please take a seat," a brunette said to me.
I took a seat opposite to them to hear what they had to say. Since I had no idea who they were, I waited patiently for them to talk to me and tell me why they wanted to see me.
"We are the junior council of Saffron falls. We go by the blue butterflies," the girl informed me.
I narrowed my eyes at her wondering why she was telling me this. It was not like they were the welcoming committee that they would tell me about such information.
"Why are you telling me this?"
My curiosity got the better of me and I asked her. She and the others exchanged knowing looks before she returned her attention to me.
"We want you to be the additional member of our council," she stated with her head raised high as though being one of them was the biggest honour in the world. Coming from a boy who had his fair chances of being the most important person in the room,I didn't find her invite that appealing.
I stood from my seat. "I am not interested," I uttered coldly and made the first move to go back to my room. They wasted my time for something so stupid and utterly useless.
"Is your magic hereditary?" I heard and stooped.
"What?" I inquired hoping I heard her wrong. I can't have being exposed in the first week of my being here.
"You are a witch. Is it hereditary or not?" she asked once more this time more clear.
I gulped.
"I have no idea what you are talking about," I announced to her. I kept moving without looking back. I jumped up in the air to avoid the fire spell thrown at me by the girl.
She was trying her luck with me. I glared back at her, I found two boys and another girl standing beside her all getting ready to do another spell. My head hurt, they came here to recruit me and this is how they say hello.
They chanted the second spell, I rubbed my thumb and middle finger of my right hand together. My eyes glowed and right before they could cast their spell, I had grounded their magic.
"What have you done?" they asked with shocked expressions on their faces.
"I am not interested in being in your group. Leave before I change my mind and hurt you," I threatened. My eyes moved across the room, to the silent vampire in the corner. He watched me with amusement.
"It wasn't up for discussion," he added. His voice sent a shiver down my spine.
