Cabin Exploration

Upon opening the door, a musty smell wafted into their noses. A cloud of dust poofed out, billowing into their faces as they walked in.

As the dust flowed into their lungs, they wheezed and coughed. Practically hacking up their lungs from the sheer amount of dust.

Edgar sneezed and after a couple of minutes, they shook off the effects of the dust.

A quick glance around the room revealed how the entire room was covered in this thick layer of dust, coating every surface.

The bookshelves were a veritable breeding ground for dust bunnies, the books caked with dust. The shelves, the floors, not a single thing was spared.

There were some old miner's tools hung up on the walls, things like pickaxes and shovels. However, they were irreparable, rust having long since gotten its claws into the metal, weakening them to the point of disuse.

"Well, shall we search gentlemen," asked Ken.

"Cut it with that dramatic crap," Edgar said, slightly ribbing Ken.

"Let's get on with it already," Eidiri cut in. "Let's canvas the room to ensure that we don't miss any spots. We'll go from left to right."

As such, the search began. To the left, there was a simple kitchen setup, highly unlikely that anything truly valuable would be stored here.

The knives were highly brittle, one of them snapping when Eidiri lightly tapped in against a wall. There wasn't much in the cupboards or cabinets either, just the unbearable stench of rot, most likely coming from food that had been left to waste.

They found some spices that were still usable but Ken declined them, saying that he'll just purchase them from in town, preferring not to use the ingredients that were probably from a dead man and had been left in a dungeon for who knows how long.

Actually, Jarid probably knew how long but whatever.

After they had finishing ransacking the kitchen, they then moved to a door that wasn't yet opened.

Within the door, there were some letters that they couldn't comprehend, but what Eidiri understood about the Caverns of Laroshia, they were probably Dwarvish.

Anyways, there was probably nothing really dangerous here, if there were dangerous creatures of some sort then the dust layers wouldn't be so thick.

Preparing to open the door, Eidiri waved Ken and Edgar to stand back, trying to make sure they didn't inhale the dust like when they had first opened the door to this cabin.

Then he covered his face and slowly pushed the door open, trying to prevent the dust from billowing out.

When the door was fully open it revealed what appeared to be a small workspace, almost like a mini-office/study of sorts.

On the office lay several yellowed papers, clearly marked with age. Eidiri moved to examine the desk, slowly opening drawers while Edgar and Ken looked around the rest of the room.

When he opened the first drawer, Eidiri was met with a small spiderling.

The spiderling immediately leaped out, aiming to latch onto Eidiri's face.

However, with his fast reaction and shock, Eidiri managed to swat the spiderling out of the air and onto the floor where he viciously stomped on it several times.

As he stomped on the spiderling, the amount of force he used was enough to crack the floorboards, leaving a slight indent in the wood.

Startled by the loud stomping, Ken and Edgar turned around, "You okay there Eidiri?" they asked.

They got no reply, only the louder/intensified sound of stomping.

Then a loud yelling erupted from Eidiri, "That'll teach you now! You think that you're so clever huh! Well, guess who's better. Yea I'm so much better!"

Of course, as Eidiri yelled this, he only further smashed the corpse of the spiderling further into the already smashed floorboards.

"What happened?" asked Ken.

"This little bastard thought he was so goddamn clever. 'Hey, why don't I just sit in this little drawer for no apparent reason and just try to ambush someone when no one's visited this cabin for ages'!" Eidiri gesticulated with air quotes, mocking the little spiderling.

"All right, chill out there. It's already dead," Edgar commented.

Eidiri looked at Edgar, then at the long-dead corpse of the spiderling his right leg was hovering over.

As if to make a point, he slammed his leg down one more time, the spiderling pretty much a lump of meat paste at this point.

"You good now?" Ken asked.

"Yea I'm good. Just be careful guys, there shouldn't have been anything in here but there was. That means there could be other traps and stuff. Keep your guard up," Eidiri instructed.

The other 2 nodded along, absorbing what Eidiri said.

"All right, I'm going to keep opening these drawers. You 2 get on stand-by," Eidiri then said.

With that said and down, Eidiri bent down again, reaching to the knob of the 2nd drawer before giving a slight tug, pulling it open.

Thankfully, this time there were no nasty surprises in this drawer, just some documents, probably that of transactions conducted when the mines were still in operations.

Upon, opening the 3rd drawer, however, they were met with a refreshing sight.

A simple tome, wrapped in some kind of beast-leather was just waiting there.

Remarkably enough though, the book was completely clean of any dust for some reason. Interesting.

Nevertheless, Eidiri and Ken quickly agreed that Edgar should be the one to receive the book this time so that he could finally obtain entry to the village and obtain more benefits.

This was to secure as many early advantages as possible. Soon enough there would be many others that would find skills books or teachers of their own.

If there's one thing to learn from gaming, it's to never underestimate the potential of the community. Without a doubt, there would be players discovering skills any day now.

Some have probably found their own skills as a matter of fact already, just not taking the route to publicize the fact.
