Chapter 9

Chiron ordered 3 more servings of the 'Rock-Scorpian Pot Roast', there was no way one serving would satisfy him.

'Thankfully, four servings were enough for me, especially when I don't even know the value of the coins inside my sack,' Chiron thought.

Seeing that he was done eating, the previous waitress walked up to him and asked,"Sir, are you ready to pay?"

"Yes"

"Well you had four orders of 'Rock-Scorpian Pot Roast', each worth 25 coppers, so your total comes out to be one silver," said the waitress promptly.

Chiron reached into his sack and pulled out one of the coins, "Will this be enough?"

"Yes, thank you for choosing the 'Deep Diner', we hope you enjoyed your meal and come again," the waitress answered cheerfully.

She was about to walk back to the kitchen, when Chiron called out to her, "The food was great, but could you help me out with something?"

The waitress was surprised at Chiron's politeness, as most beastmen(she assumed Chiron was a beastmen) who walked in here were more boorish and unruly. Her image of Chiron in her head became slightly more gentlemanly.

However, this was far from the case! After Chiron heard about arachnids capable of telepathic communication, he began to realize how lightly he'd been taking this world. 'Thank goodness those beastmen I ambushed weren't hiding any powerful abilities', thought Chiron.

"Of course! What do you need help on?, she said a little bit too enthusiastically.

Some of the other customers were surprised at her attitude, but after seeing Chirons face they has looks of understanding.

"Hilda is at it again," commented a mole looking beastman.

"Well, you know how she is, as long as you have the face, she acts like an obedient little puppy," his companion commented.

As they were talking, they heard somebod scoff in a table nearby. "I hate women that are so superficial. As long as they think you're ugly, they'll slap you and run away whenever they see you," said a rat looking beastmen.

"Harold, she's only like that to you," responded the mole beastmen.

"Harold, you slapped her ass, what were you expecting?", said the mole beastmen, trying hold in his laughter.

"...."

Getting back on topic, Chiron asked the waitress, "Well miss waitress, I was wondering if you knew any place I could stay, like an inn, perhaps?"

"Well I do know one a couple of blocks down the street, though I don't know if they still have any available rooms. Just look for an inn called 'Sleepy Mountain', with the 'Miners' gang log on it.

Walking down the streets, Chiron surmised the few details he got a the diner. 'I doubt I'll have to worry about funds for a while, after all I'm basically carrying 9,900 copper right now,' Chiron couldn't help but smile at his wealth.

'Though, I still don't know what those three red vials do. I'll have to get another look at them after I get a place to stay,' thought Chiron, until he finally came across 'Sleepy Mountain'.

'Although 'The Den' was full of criminals and wanted men from the surface, the three gangs that governed it brought some semblance of order.

Amongst these gangs were the 'Miners'. The 'Miners' had a hand in most of the construction inside 'The Den', so it was no surprise that most of their income came from real estate in 'The Den', places such as 'Sleepy Mountain'.

As it was their main source of income, they were very critical that their clients payed on time. And now is a good time to mention the three golden rules of the 'Miners' gang:

#1- Always pay on time

#2- Do not harm anyone or anything while in their property

and last but not least

#3 - ALWAYS PAY ON TIME!!!

Even if your excuse was, "Oh, my mother was ill", "I wasn't in urgent need of medical care".

What does that have to do with them? If it's repeated twice in their three rules, you really have no one to blame but yourself.

The special 'attention' given by the 'Miners' was a set a chains, and a ticket to one of the dozen tunnels at the edge of 'The Den' until you repayed your debt. You night be thinking,'It's just the price of a room, I should be in and out in a flash', and this would be the case... if it wasn't the 'Miners'.

Here came the origin of their gang name. If someone were sent their, for every day they stayed there, their debt would go up an an exorbitant 1000%!!

And because the only valuable things inside the tunnel were beasts or ores that only appeared about 12 hours into the tunnels. It became nearly impossible to escape their clutches. This was the background of one of the top three gangs in this sespool of criminals, the 'Miners'!!
