The DARK PAST.3

The rays of the sun that entered directly into her room were blocked by the curtains and the room was dark.

Hua lin shifted and slowly opened her eyes wary of catching the sun's rays but the room was kept dark. She glances beside and finds her mom to be gone.

Clash! Clank! She hears noises downstairs.

"No way! Not again", She rushes downstairs without giving a thought.

The drawing-room was dark and smoky.

" Ah!", she whines softly. A piece of glass had pierced her feet. She hadn't noticed but the floor has pieces of alcohol bottle glasses scattered all over, the beer can lying ideal on the floor.

Carefully taking the steps she nears and stops when she notices the figure on the sofa.

"You finally came down!!", His deep voice startles her.

" yes, I just woke up", she gulps as she answers.

"Good, come here!", He gestures his hand beside him.

She hesitated to go but..her legs moved on their own.

She sat beside him. It wasn't the first time she had sat beside him, but every time she felt terrified and it was the same this time.

He raised his hand, watching it Hua lin reflexively flinches.

He looks down at the figure and strokes her hair.

Hua lin gapes as his hands run through her hair.*What?...what is he trying to do*. It was the first time he had touched her that way besides hitting her.

" You know where your mom is right?".

"Mom?", She asks with a surprised face. "Mom? she isn't here?".

"Don't act like a fool? You know she would do this right? after all you are her daughter whom she loves the most! So tell me where mom is? ", His voice gets deeper.

" I don't know! what are you talking about?".

*What is he talking about? where's mom?*

"Don't lie! Tell me where she is! ", He raises his voice and shouts.

Hua lin gets frightened by the voice and stands up.

" I don't know where she is!".

He grabs her hand and heds it tightly.

"Okay! I am sorry for shouting! I promise I won't do it again so tell me where Mei Lin is?", He looks at his daughter's face and smiles.

Hua lin widens her eyes in disgust. She hated the way he looked at her like that.

She had her head down.

" I am telling you I don't know what are you talking about!".

His grasp tightens, "You don't know what I am talking about?", He smirks.

"You don't know your mother ran away with some other man! I wondered why she was itching to get a divorce. So, she didn't tell you. She abandoned you after all!". He eases her hand and laughs.

Her eyes darken as he hears his words. She stood still in her place, her head scooped down.*She ran away? No way! He got to be lying! But why would he lie? No way she can abandon me! She said after divorce we would leave together! So why? Why did she run without me! Another man? is that the reason?".

Her eyes well in tears.

" What are you standing there for?".Her father stares at her."Go! Get your mom!".

She looks at him in surprise.

"What are you looking at? I said go look for that bi***". He shouts and throws the bottle he was holding flying to her.

Bam* It misses slightly and hits the floor.

She trembles in fear.

" How am I supposed to look for her? I don't know where she is!", she speaks softly.

"What? What did you say? If I knew where she is then why would I tell you?". He shouts.

She grabs her skirt tight, shivering in fear.

" How? How am I supposed to where she is? I just woke up and found that she is gone!".

Smash!!!

A big hand clashes on her cheeks.

"Don't you dare talk back to me, you insolent brat!!".His eyes were furious and his body lingered in his drunken state.

Her face reddens and she whines in pain.

Her father's hand reaches out to grab her but she flinches and rushes upstairs to her room.

Without looking back she shuts the door of her room and leans on it, her body shivering.

" Come back here you insolent brat!!".

Thump!!! thump!! She hears a loud noise downstairs from the fall of her father.

She holds her body together in her little grasp and weeps.

After a whole day had passed and it was almost noon, she glances around and realizes the sun had fallen.

She wipes away her tears and stands up.No sound was to be heard downstairs.

She nears her bed and sits on its edge.

A white paper lay on the table with some scribbled words on it. It had gone unnoticed by the girl since the morning.

*Mom! Where are you?*.

She glances at her side were her mom's presence were still vivid. As she loses herself in the thoughts again, the paper on the table catches her eye.

She moves closer and sees familiar handwriting.

*Mom?*.
