Chapter 2: Lost

I'm going to be honest, I had no idea where I was. It had been roughly 24 hours already and the sun was setting once again. I'd been running for hours to make sure I wouldn't get caught by other packs. If they found me, they might kill me and I didn't want to die yet. Although luckily, I have been able to hunt 2 rabbits and found a stream not so long ago. So for now, I was surviving pretty well under the circumstances.

As I continued to walk out of the forest it seemed like I was approaching an edge of a cliff, I could see many lights below me that caught my eye. At first, it looked like fallen stars but then I saw faint shapes of houses. It must be a town. It was quite modern looking even though it had been built within the walls of many mountains.

If I lived here I could switch into my wolf form, when I need to, with ease. It didn't take me much to make a final decision, since being able to change back into this form was a must for me. So, I made my way down the cliff. I wasn't going to waste time by going the long way down. So I started to jump from ledge to ledge. slipping sometimes due to the loose rubble.

When I next looked at the distance between me and the ground below, I was thankfully nearly at the bottom. Steadily skidding onto a ledge I took a break. My heart was thumping, it had been a while since I had done something this dangerous. But once I got my breath back, I got ready to jump again.

My front paws slightly dangled off the edge as I was getting ready to jump once again, but my ears perked at a sudden gunshot. Making me jump and my body tense up, I started to lose my balance and slip. I wasn't ready to jump yet.

Thinking quick before I ended up tumbling my way down the cliff, I forced my hind legs to make my body jump forward. With a firm thump on the ground, I managed to successfully catch myself. Along with a painful crack from my front paw.

I whimpered loudly and then stopped suddenly, shaking my head I repeated the words "it's fine I've just twisted it" over and over. I took a deep breath and slowly put it on the ground. When I tried to walk properly the same agonising pain came shooting back. My eyes watered. Forgetting my surrounding for a minute, I only just realised the rustling of the bushes. I started to growl.

A girl around my age came out yelling and complaining to someone, as she brushed herself rid of the fallen leaves and dirt on her clothes and not noticing I was there at first.

"Neo how did you miss that shot your such a-" She stopped her words from flying out of her mouth and stared at me with wide eyes.

"A what?..." A boy, also the same age asked, then noticed me too. It wasn't long until there were 4 humans, standing at a distance, in front of me. There was a long awkward pause before a voice spoke up,

"Should I shoot it?" One of them said before the girl whisper shouted,

"Neo! Are you crazy?! It's a wolf?!" I looked back at the guy called Neo and he rolled his eyes,

"Well no sh*t." He said. I narrowed my eyes at the Neo guy, if he dares point that gun at me, I'll have his head.

"Ha! I think it understands us, also...it looks female don't you think?" Another guy spoke. Neo raised an eyebrow turning his head towards the guy before saying,

"Zack don't chat sh*t." Up to now, I figured out two of their names, but to be honest, I should be thinking about my escape.

Deciding to take a few steps closer to the small group, they froze again. When I took more steps closer it wasn't long until the girl ran screaming, the other guy who I didn't know the name of, also ran after her. Now it was just the Neo guy and Zack.

"Come on Neo, I think we should get back to town." Zack spoke putting his hand on Neo's shoulder.

"Go check on the others, I'll join you guys in a minute." He spoke coldly towards Zack but strangely didn't break eye contact with me. What a smart ass, no surprise attacks would distract him then.

The other guy took his hand back and nodded slowly, before casually walking back into the bushes and trees. Just as I was about to take another step, the armed human loaded his gun and pointed it at me.

I rolled my eyes and huffed, but he must of noticed it as the next this he said was,

"Wolves, are all the same... Right?" He said in a sad and quieter tone as if he was trying to convince himself something. But that made me feel very confused in a very short amount of time. He sighed before continuing.

"...Unfortunately I just missed my last target. But since you are here, I'm sure that your red coat would make up for it." He finished off speaking.

But I suddenly found myself not paying attention to what he was saying, now my focus was on something else. I've been here for too long, as well with this human. Other wolves are to surely follow and this could be more dangerous for both of us. Turning my direction to the bushes on the right-hand side of the guy, I growled.

This can end in many ways depending on what pack they are from and if they are Werewolves or just normal wolves. I flattened my ears as 3 wolves walked out. All black coated wolves. Well, there goes my chance of survival.

"Who are you?" I raised my voice and looked at the wolf who was in the middle. He stopped and looked at me,

"That's our question, who are you? You are the ones who have invaded our territory." He snarled threateningly. I looked at Neo who for some odd reason didn't seem scared at all, and had even decided to get a cigarette out and rest one arm on his rifle. I looked back at the wolves,

"He's not with me, and I'm just passing through, sorry for the... inconvenience." I spoke trying to be polite.

"Oh is that so, then you won't mind if we take the human?" The wolf in charge spoke, I cocked an eyebrow.

"I'm to presume, your pack are all wolves then?" I asked and all three of the wolves started laughing.

"No, we are a mixed pack." The main wolf spoke up again.

"Your pack eats humans, even though some of you are half-human yourself?" I asked in disgust and they nodded. It took me a long process to get my head around the fact.

I stayed quiet as lots of thoughts rushed through my head. Never in my life have I heard anything so horrific in my life. Hearing paw steps walking closer, I snapped out of my trail of thoughts.

"No, you can't eat this human find something else to eat." I said with knitted eyebrows. There was no way I was witnessing cannibalism. As I started to walk away, or more like limp away, I saw Neo pull up his gun and directing in my direction. Is he joking?! I saved him just now and he still wants me dea--

BANG!
