I could see that the coordination between Mako and Korra was bad, no, it was a disaster. They kept stumbling into each other on the platform, it was hard to watch.
"Huh... what did I tell you Korra..."
"What do you mean by that?"
I look at Nya and sigh again.
"Nothing, I'm just thinking about how much Korra has to learn about people and relationships."
"Don't we all?"
"In Korra's case, it's more serious. Imagine somebody who all his life has only interacted with old people and their only concern was to make her a living weapon, this was Korra's childhood. She has almost no idea how to interact with normal people. It surprises me that she managed to befriend Mako and Bolin."
"You're exaggerating. Korra is fine, she's just a little disoriented by the change of scenery. In a couple of years, she won't have this problem quite the contrary, she will be quite the charmer. You should just stop worrying, all girls are like that at that age."
"I don't remember you having this phase."
"You couldn't have noticed this, while I was with you I would always put on a brave and confident face. Only when I was alone with Zane and Kai this side of me would start to show up. I remember I one time made Zane mad because I didn't stop talking about how great you were. He swore that if I said one more word he would go and tell you. I think that was the only time I saw Zane angry. It was pretty scary."
"HAHA, you managed to anger Zane, even Kai didn't manage that. You are amazing you know that?"
We kiss and continue to watch the match. The Fire Ferrets won by a hair and I saw Korra storm outside after she changed, Nya and I followed her. Nya wanted me to go talk to her but I told her to wait for a moment. Right before she was about to reprimand me for not wanting to talk with her we see Mako.
We hear their entire conversation, it made Nya cry while I didn't find it moving and even started to want to question Nya why she found it so bitter-sweet but my better judgment won over my curiosity and I stopped in time.
We saw Bolin coming and Nya wanted to go to him but I stopped her. He needed to see this, since I'm pretty sure Korra didn't talk with Bolin he will probably be crush to see this, but I know that he will easily recover. This was a good lesson for both Korra and Bolin.
Bolin runs away and Mako followed him. I tell Nya to help Mako with Bolin while I go to talk with Korra. She was mopping and looking like a lost puppy, it was a deplorable site.
"Well, Korra nice to see you, how have you been?"
"Sniff, sniff, O it's you, Ethan. How much of what happened did you see?"
"From start to finish and I got to tell you it was pretty brave of you to kiss Mako like that. It made me feel like I was watching one of Pema's love stories. The man who's with the wrong woman, but the love of his life comes to the rescue. Too bad Bolin was there to see all of that and that Mako didn't really share all your feelings."
"What are you trying to tell me, Ethan? That I screwed up? I know that already..."
"I don't doubt that you already know that. Why I am here right now is to help you. Do you know how to distinguish between friends and true friends? Friends are there for all your highs, true friends are there for all your lows, they are there to help you get back up, to reassure you that everything will be alright when all seems lost."
I approach the ledge and look at the water, it was a beautiful night. Korra looks at me and I look at her, I hug her.
"Korra, I'm your friend, I'm here for you."
She then hugs me tighter and starts crying. All the anxiety, the sorrow, the loathing they are all washed away.
Through the sobs, I can hear her telling me "Thank you!".
After a good fifteen minutes of crying, she finally calms down.
"Now that you've calmed down let's talk about what you can learn from this."
"I, I, I shouldn't have kissed Mako."
"That's all you've learned? Well, that's disappointing..."
"What was I supposed to learn, Oh Wise One."
"It's good that your sense of humor is still intact. What I want you to take from this is how to be clear. I mean if you want something from someone to tell that person. You wanted to just be friends with Bolin, then you should have told him that. By not telling him that you actually made things worst. Korra, we are human, we can't read thoughts, we barely understand each other using words. It's hard enough to understand intentions when you clearly say what you want but if you don't say it, it becomes near impossible when it comes to relationships."
"I understand, I'll try to be more clear from now on, all the time."
"Korra, I don't want you to be clear all the time, only when it counts, it's not that hard, and I want you to stop trying and to actually do it. You still have a game tonight do you not? Before the game starts I want you to apologize to Bolin and tell him how you really see him, as a friend nothing more nothing less. Can you do that for me?"
"Yes, I can!"
She leaves but turns back halfway.
"Thank you, Ethan. Thank you for teaching me this, thank you for being here for me, it means a lot to me."
She then rushes inside to prepare for the next game.
