Chapter 21

Mia could hardly believe that the council was reconsidering their decision. "How is that possible Sam? I thought they didn't believe that I am John and Zara's daughter?" Mia asked.

"True but the rangers think that they took things too far. There are plenty of adopted children in the organization and what they are saying is that they won't take in those orphans that have been adopted, so the council is forced to rethink their decisions," Sam said.

"I suppose what they are saying is right but Sam you do know I am their real daughter," Mia said. "Yes, we know Mia but please just go with it for now. Remember there is no clue on where your parents are and without them, it's impossible to fight the council on their decision," Sam said.

"You know in a way we are fighting the council on their decision but in a different way," Mia said. "In a way you are right but you didn't answer my question earlier? Where were you the past week?" Sam asked.

Mia looked at Sam and remained quiet. Sam sighed and said, "we can not help you if you do not talk to us Mia," Sam said. Mia took a deep breath and said, "I went to check if my parents didn't come home since I last saw them," Mai said.

"What but why Mia? You promised us you wouldn't run off again," Sam said. Mia could hear the anger in Sam's voice but she decided not to let it get her under, "Sam what is the truth? I needed to see for myself that they really are gone and I have decided to check all the places we have lived maybe they are having trouble getting ahold of us after all we did move?" Mia said.

Sam dragged his hand through his hair and looked around him. For the first time, he didn't know if Mia has a point or if she is trying to take the law into her own hands. He knew what she was saying could be dangerous because it meant taking the elemental hunters head-on. "Mia I don't think it's a good idea but you're an adult now. Just promise you won't go to these locations alone?" Sam said.

"If it makes you feel better, uncle Kevin and Sally were there. They made sure I got on the bus," Mia said. Sam's eyes grew wide and said, "so he did go and take a look for himself?" Sam said. "Yea and I learned something about my powers from Sally that dad didn't tell me," Mia said. "What do you mean?" Sam asked.

"My emotions can trigger storms, it's one of my mega abilities that and well lightning," Mia said. Sam sat down on the bench and said, "now I know why John kept you away from the public. The storm ability among all elementals are one of the rarest skills but also among the most dangerous known to us," Sam said.

"Why is it dangerous?" Mia asked. "Because storms are seen as natural disasters and it can kill people," Sam said. "Should I tell Jasmine and Mary-Anne?" Mia asked. "No don't tell them and whatever you do try to stay in control of your powers. The fewer people know about your ability the saver you are," Sam said.

"Why do you think dad didn't talk to me about my powers?" Mia asked. "I suspect they were going to tell you soon but the incident happened before they could but knowing your powers I understand what it is that your mother was talking about," Sam said.

Mia got up and looked at Sam, "I sepose we should get going?" Mia said. "Yes, let me radio Mike and tell him I found you," Sam replied.

"Control come in?" Sam called over the radio that was in his truck between the two front seats. The radio was silent for a moment before there was a static sound and a voice followed. "Send," the voice replied. Mia recognized the voice as Luna's and said, "when did she start working on the radio?" Mia asked. "About two days ago," Sam replied.

Mia smiled and said, " I really miss everyone, just not the siren." Sam smiled and pressed the button on the side of the radio and replied, "tell Mike I found Mia and tell him he was right she did go back to see if the man was telling the truth," Sam said.

The radio was quiet for a while before Mike's voice came over the radio as very cross. "Mia I told you not to run off like that. No matter what anyone tells you, you do not leave this town," Mike yelled over the radio.

"Calm down Mike she wasn't alone, Kevin and Sally were with her," Sam said. "That does not mean anything what if the elemental hunters caught her?" Mike yelled. Mia spoke her mind without thinking, "I would like to see how they handle my lighting and storm ability?" Sam looked at Mia for a second before replying.

"Sally gave Mia some information that I think you should know about. It kind of makes senses why John kept Mia away from everyone. It also explains why Zara wanted Mia to know about our past," Sam said. "Well spit it out?" Mike ordered.

"It's too dangerous to say it over the radio. This channel might not be secure," Sam said. "If you worried about the channel being secured then it must be serious," Mike said.

Mia was about to get into the truck when she notices a group coming towards them. "Sam I think we have trouble?" Mia said. Sam looked at the group and said, "just stay calm Mia."

They kept their eye's on the group as they passed them. Mia looked at Sam and said, "they know something?" Sam looked at Mia and said, "maybe it's a good thing you weren't here the past few days. I don't like those guys," Sam said.

"It's one of them that threatened me. He told me to stay away from clover and he didn't care if I was family or not," Mia said. Sam looked at the group and back at Mia. "Did you report the incident to the police?" Sam asked. "Yes and they suggested I take the ranger test since it will allow me to be on base," Mia said.

"It could be nothing Mia but I suspect it might be old friends of the clover base. We have been in charge of the base for only a few years and this isn't the first time we have heard people threatening our members," Sam said.

"What do you mean?" Mia asked. "Clover is a really old team. We are it think the third generation working as team clover and every generation things changes," Sam asked. "What do you mean?" Mia asked.

"Well, I think the original reason the team was created was to investigate a threat that threatened to destroy the elemental nation. At the time the team was created it was only five members. The mission was successful and the elementals were saved for the years to follow. The team later specialised in search and rescue and even ended up doing support," Sam said.

"What is support?" Mai asked. "It means we help whoever may need us. Mike isn't happy about the title since he feels embarrassed by it but it's what the council wants us to do," Sam said.

Mia got into the truck next to Sam and asked, "how do I contact Jasmine and Mary-Anne?" Sam looked at Mia and said, "they said they would talk to you once you arrive at the base. Did Kevin say anything about your home after he saw it?" Sam asked. "I suspect he recognised dad's skill but he didn't say much," Mia said.

"That's Kevin for you, he was always the quiet one. His team focuses on search and rescue. Did you noticed the truck he was driving?" Sam asked. Mia looked at Sam and said, "yes it was really pretty being red and white and all," Mia said.

"That's a symbol for most teams that specialises in search and rescue," Sam replied. Sam's truck turned off and drove towards the mountain base. Mia looked out of the window and watched as the trees flew by. She watched them drove over a river and Mia spotted a child in the water. "Sam stop there's a child in the river?" Mia said.

Sam stopped using the emergency brake on the truck and Mia jumped out of the truck she ran to the other side of the bridge and Sam saw the child in the water.

He looked around and noticed two adults running towards them. "I am going to follow the child downstream. If I use my power I can keep up," Mia said. "Here take this, if you find the child call on the radio," Sam replied.

Mia used her wind ability to make herself fly to the riverbank across the river. She started running after the child not losing sight of the child. Mia realised there was trouble ahead when she heard a waterfall in the distance. The child caught a rock but she could barely hold on as the water current was too strong.

Mia realised she needed to do something to help the child. She focused on her water and wind ability to force the water to flow slower but Mia was having trouble forcing the water back. The girl took the chance when the water slowed down to get out of the water and Mia let go of all the water.

She picked up the radio and called for Sam. "Sam come in?" it didn't take long for him to answer. "Send Mia." Taking a deep breath Mia said, "she is out of the water but it was not easy," Mia said.
