"Sacrifice! Sacrifice!" The crowd of unicorns started chanting. No. Oh HELL no! I did not die, and then get reborn as a freaking horned horse just to die again right away!
"Prepare the circle! The ceremony must be performed tonight while the full moon is at its zenith!" The elder called. I could feel myself being pulled towards the weird ring of mushrooms at the center of the clearing.
"Sacrifice! Sacrifice! Sacrifice!" the chanting continued.
Seriously, were they all barbarians? Who sacrifices a baby as a means to save the world! And of all things to engage in pagan rituals… Unicorns? Really? I mean, I thought unicorns were supposed to be creatures of light and purity! Powerful and noble magical beasts who specialized in healing and cleansing!
Not caring to learn any more of their crazy plans, and not really caring why they thought killing a baby in a ring of mushrooms was going to save them from whatever impending doom they might be facing, I began to struggle with all of my might. During that time I may have emitted some very unflattering and embarrassingly girly sounding baby horse whinnies, but at that moment in time I really didn't give a damn. All I could think of was escape.
"Look how lively the sacrifice is!" One of the spectators gushed.
"Think of all the vitality he must have!" Another agreed. "It will fortify the seal even more!"
What was that about a seal? Never mind, whatever bullshit they were going on about didn't matter. Whatever their reasons, this mob of horned horses meant absolutely nothing to me, had done virtually nothing for me, and I wasn't about to die for their sake. I mean, what would the death of an infant accomplish?
"He's getting hard to hold," The elder commented. "And there are so many of us holding him… His power is incredible!"
"He must be unblemished at the time of the sacrifice!" Starlight called in response. I could feel more and more magic added to whatever was holding me, and of course I fought against it even harder. "Careful not to hurt him!"
Hurt me? They were going to kill me, and they were concerned I might get hurt before I died? What the hell were these imbeciles on? More determined than ever, I started racking my brain for a way out. I mean, unicorns can use magic right? There had to be something I could do. Based on the commentary and the strain they were showing, apparently I was a powerhouse too. Think, Faustus, think! What is a great escape spell?
"He's nearly there!" the Elder gasped. "Come now little one! No need to be so dismayed! You'll soon be free!"
Teleportation! I mean, I don't know if unicorns are able to teleport, but it would make sense! Nobody can ever find the buggers for one, and it's not like I have wings… hang on a second… well what do you know! I'm a freaking alicorn! Or is it pegacorn? Whatever! I'm a unicorn with freaking wings! Not that it does me any good at the moment. I'm not strong enough to fly yet, but hey, the surplus power is now explained. Time to go all Princess Celestia on their shit!
Now, as soon as I got a better grasp of what I was and what I might be capable of, things really started getting crazy. I turned into some kind of crazy laser show, my little newborn horn zapping things and unicorns at random as I thrashed. Naturally, this caused enough of the crowd to let go of me, it gave me just the wiggle room I needed to escape! There was one problem though… I couldn't turn the lasers off!
"What kind of power is this?" the elder gasped. "I've never seen an infant use such incredible offensive power!"
"Make him stop!" Starlight shouted, "He'll destroy the fairy circle!" Right, that's what they called the ring of mushrooms. I knew that.
"Forget the circle, he'll break the seal!" The elder called.
Ignoring their drama, I focused on escape. A few times, I nearly managed to slip free of their hold, but every time I felt my self start falling back to the earth, they'd re-catch me. Yeah apparently physically running away was a no go, which was worrisome because the gathering was quickly turning into a mob. Since they had intended to kill me from the outset, and they were clearly convinced the only way to save themselves was to sacrifice me, they became more and more violent in their efforts to subdue me.
Before long, I wasn't the only one shooting off lasers. From a distance, it probably looked like a pretty awesome rave was going on, and that's how I wish I could've experienced this mess. As it was, I was in the thick of things and getting more and more desperate. Just as it was beginning to look hopeless and I felt like I might die a second time... All at once… I disappeared!
