Hi! I'm Ellis

Hi, I'm Ellis and I'm 23 years old. I was adopted when I was seven and me and my family have recently moved here. I'm a nice guy who just wants to be quiet and not be so noticed.

Do I have any secrets, well who doesn't. But, definitely not like mine. Yes, my name is Ellis, but I'm not 23. To be honest I really don't know my age as I stopped counting a few hundred years ago. Yes, I'm over a thousand years old, what! No, big deal when you're a vampire. Yes, you read right - I'm a vampire.

Though not your typical type of vampire, as in can't stand the sun, we need blood to survive (we do drink blood, but it's like juice, not a necessity and we don't suck like in the movies) and we don't kill humans, rather we actually protect them from the dangers lurking in the dark.

Back to my family. Obviously I'm not adopted as we vampires don't really have a family, just the clan we belong to is our family. For the human world our clan parts into families so no human suspects as and we can live peacefully.

We stop aging at different points of our first life. That's why I remained looking in my 20s while my clan members posing as my parents look like they are in their 40s.

Anyhow, at present I'm a 23-year old in college and my father deals in stocks and my mom is a housewife. Sweet family, right.

Getting on, now the only thing important for us three is to be humans, live a human life and keep undercover.

Today is another normal day in my normal life. As always I enjoy breakfast with my parents and walk to college. I prefer walking cause it's nearby and my friends tag along.

My friends are humans and don't know about me. They are like the three musketeers for me. Clive, is the fun going guy who can bring a smile on anyone's face. Denver, is the intelligent one who always helps us in our homework and Joel, the hunk. Yes, he's tall, muscular and damn handsome. Honestly, if I was a girl, I'd not waste time to propose.

We four have been together since high school (yes I've been living here for the past ten years) and never parted since.

On the way, one by one joins me and cracking jokes and talking we finally reach our destination - college.

Clive and Denver are in separate classes as they chose art while me and Joel are in the engineering faculty. Engineering you may ask, well I need a good cover that lasts long so this option gives me a good protective cover from the human world.

As we enter, some of our other classmates and friends greet us and one friend tells us the inter college sports are beginning so Clive and Denver should fill their forms. As for me and Joel, we're on the football team and this year we are defending our title so our names will be entered by the captain.

Clive is a great racer so decides to take part in the marathon while Denver isn't much of a sports person but since the intercollege participation is must for second year students, he has to choose something.

I give Denver a pat on the shoulder and say, "Denver, you still got a week to decide. Don't worry we'll think of something." Clive also gives Denver a reassuring feel by saying, "Yeah, you just need to participate."

As the bell rings Clive and Denver say bye to us and go towards their building while me and Joel head towards our classroom. We enter and sit according to our roll numbers. Luckily Joel is behind me in the line back of me. Soon our professor enters with a girl walking behind him.

Not that it matters, cause since I joined three boys and two girls got transferred to my class but why is this girl making me feel uneasy?

Suddenly Joel hit me from the back and I realized I was zoned out as the girl was standing next to me because her seat was next to me, so I instantly apologized and let her in.

As we both sat I couldn't stop myself from looking at her. For some odd reason she seemed distant. Soon the recess bell rang so me and Joel got up and came to the canteen.

Soon, Clive and Denver also joined us. This time Denver had to hit me out of my zoning. "Hey, where are you?"

"Ah, what?? Sorry guys just a little (ruffles his hairs) oh, why's she in my head. God dammit."

The boys look at Ellis wide-eyed and together say, "What??"

Just then Joel remembers he zoned out in class also when that girl came and instantly spoke up, "What? That Jane girl from our class is distracting you. Hey, since when did a girl distract you. Thought you said education first then girls."

"Her name is Jane."

Clive and Denver start laughing at Ellis because he's distracted by a girl who's name he doesn't know. After laughing Denver says, "She's in your class and you don't know her name."

Joel speaks before Ellis can reply saying, "The moment she stepped in class he's been zoned out. So, obviously while she gave her introduction he didn't hear. He didn't even realize she's standing next to him to take the seat next to him."

"Wow! Is she that beautiful," asks Denver and Clive says, "If you're not interested, I'll gladly take care of her." Stopping there imagination to run any further Joel says, "Guys relax. She's OK in looks but why are you (looking at Ellis) so bothered about her."

Taking a sigh Ellis says, "Guys I'm not distracted cause I like her or anything such. It's just, the moment I saw her I felt odd and for some reason she seems distant."

All look a little perplexed then Clive says, "Maybe she's the quiet type. You know those who like to stay with themselves like there's no one in the world." "Oh, come-on Ellis, over the years we've met so many girls, be-friended some and some just classmates. Let go of her." "Yes, Joel adds, unless you're beginning to like her, she shouldn't bother you."

Denver asks, "Well, interested or not." "Of course not, '' says Ellis, '' it's just something that bothered me about her." Taking a big breath Ellis says, "Enough about her. I didn't even know her name and I'm bothered. Hey! What's the plan today evening!."
