Clive asks Jane a little worried "Jane.. ah.. Has Ronny crossed the line… beat you or anything." Getting hold of herself "Ronny never considers me a stepsister. He hates me and in the beginning it was just verbal. Maybe because he was young at the time, but as he grew older, his hatred for me also grew. Beating is common, a slap now and then, throwing my stuff, spoiling my notes, it's routine."
"But, on dad's birthday or his death anniversary he'd be really mad. He and Jimmy used to beat me so badly I'd lose my consciousness and barely manage to clean up."
Clive asks Jane, "Your mother, what about her? Didn't she do anything to save you? Like speaking to Ronny's mom or reporting to the police."
"I never told her as she already had enough on hand by being a single mom and having the lawful wife roaming around in front and lamenting her (Jane's mom) as the mistress her husband had a fling with."
Taking a deep breath Jane continues "But one day he beat me so badly I had to be hospitalized for a week. A fractured arm and hit on the head. That's when mom said it's enough and we shifted here. But my great hell of a luck - Ronny had a big fight with some rich boys at school and got expelled so his mom sent him to live with his uncle (giving a small laugh) here and he got enrolled in a new college, my college. As for Jimmy, he tagged along. The rest I guess he met here and made a gang for me."
"Good lord, sighs Joel, as bad as he looks his deeds are worse. Man, this guy needs rehab."
Looking at the boys Jane says "Guys thanks, especially Ellis but you shouldn't stand around me."
Ellis had been quiet all the time and finally took a sigh "Guys I don't think I have to ask any of you cause I know you're always with me. (looking at Jane) Jane from now on, you're our responsibility. We promise from now on none of them will raise even a finger at you. Since you're in the same faculty as me and Joel, he won't harm you in the classes, what about activities, we're in aerobics and you?" "Me, I took cheerleading, '' replies Jane to which Clive speaks up saying "Hey! Denver, your inter college sport issue is solved. Join the cheer leaders group. That way you'll enroll for the sports and get to stay next to Jane and keep an eye on."
"What?? Retorts Denver a guy jumping with pom poms in his hand. Are you guys planning on getting me a boyfriend by any chance?" Smiling Ellis says "Denver if you want a boyfriend we're with you no matter who you choose. As for cheerleading, I think it's more than pom poms."
Adding in Joel says "Yes a few days back I saw the cheerleading team and man the flips, leaps, jumps, I'm amazed, though (looking at Denver) you might break a bone or two."
Looking at Jane Ellis asks "Jane what's your say?" Replying Jane says " Guys your confidence has given me new strength to fight Ronny and stand for myself. I'm thankful to you guys for supporting me. As for Denver, there are other boys in the cheerleading team from the science and commerce faculty so, you won't be alone. As for the acts, don't worry you'll get full training before you have to leap or jump."
Smiling Denver says "OK! I'll join the cheerleading team. So, what next? "
Replying, Ellis says "Well it's obvious Ronny must be pissed off right now since I took Jane away and that his bullying has a witness. Though we can go to the principal and get him and his goons suspended, that's not a solution for Jane or her mother. We need to end this."
Continuing, Ellis says "First off, let's be around Jane and make sure Ronny doesn't cause trouble. Rest we'll see as things take shape."
"OK, says Clive, Jane, why don't you take Denver and get him enrolled in your team while me, Joel and Ellis see what they are up to?"
Smiling Jane says "Sure, looking towards Denver, then we'll go?"
Getting off the wall Denver says "Sure" and both Jane and Denver go towards the cheerleading room.
Just as Clive and Joel also get off the wall Ronny comes from the back and pushes Ellis but being a vampire Ellis's sixth sense triggers him and he maintains his posture. To which Ronny retorts "What the hell??, still trying to be the tough guy, hey do you think you're a big toughy guy. Want to get even or rather lose?"
Clive and Joel ask Ellis if he's OK to which Ellis says "Guys relax. (looking towards Ronny) And you, I'm gonna say this for the first and last time. I'm the last person on this earth you'll want to mess with. A fight with me, you won't last to lose. So, stop bothering Jane and her mom, you'll survive or else.. "Or else, continues Clive, we'll make sure you do. Taking Ellis's hand Clive says, "Ellis-Joel let's go."
Joel follows Ellis and Clive. Clive brings Ellis to his car and stops. Joel stops behind Ellis. Seeing Clive is still holding his hand Ellis says "Clive you can let go. I ain't doing anything to him, yet at least."
Signing Clive says, "What was that? I mean I know you're no soft guy, but that. Hey! Do you by any chance like.." Stopping Clive Ellis says "Heck no, guys I barely knew her name. I just don't like bullies. And, if I find one I'm not keeping quiet about it."
Making a frowning face Joel asks "Ellis how did you know Ronny was coming to push you. It's like you had eyes behind you."
Smiling Ellis says, "Let's just say my sixth sense is extra strong." Smiling Joel says "Yeah, no doubt about that. Come on, let's go to the diner. Denver will come by."
Ellis enters the back seat while Joel gets in the seat next to Clive and Clive drives off.
Sitting in the back Ellis gets a flashback of his intuition with Ronny. And wonders if saving Jane is worth it. What if they find out he's a vampire. No, that can't happen.
Suddenly Clive sees in the rear view mirror Ellis is spacing out, "Hey, Ellis everything OK. Don't take this Jane thing seriously. We'll get a way out."
"Ellis, asks Joel, what's bothering you. It's definitely not Jane." "Huh, oh nothing. Just thinking what next," says Ellis but for the first time Ellis realized his friends might soon find out his true identity and deep down Clive and Joel also felt their friend is hiding something from them and it's definitely not Jane but something bigger.
