Our World (VII)

"I hoped that you were the key or at least could explain us what was happening, from your reaction I can tell that you are just as lost as we are... nevertheless there is a small detail we omitted. Recently we received an strange message on the radio"

"Radio? Aren't the wireless communications supposed to be not working?"

"Certainly. As you know, something happened in the day of the Apocalypse that disabled all our technology and means of sending information. Though we discovered today that only a short range in the FM frequency seems to work. A notification arrived at our intelligence systems, some kind of message that repeats constantly every few minutes"

"What did it say?"

"It was encrypted, we asked an expert to decode it. Here in this report is the translation"

The mayor brought out a briefcase and gave it to me. I opened it and saw a paper with a text on it.

[To the ones chosen by the light, we wait for you in the tower of Olympus. Hope thrives]

... eh? What the hell is this? What did it means by chosen? It resembles a bad joke, but I doubt it's one. I don't think there is someone who would do something like this just for fun. We aren't at the right time to do it, it must have a deeper meaning.

"Any idea what this means?" I asked stunned.

"That was what I was hoping you told us, we don't have any clue. Chosen by the light is a very broad term, the closest that comes to mind is someone like you"

"Me?"

"Certainly, the only person that has an ability to defeat one of those monsters"

"..."

I stayed in silence and looked at my left hand. Has my glove something to do with all of this? Light... could it be the same I saw on the day of the Apocalypse?

The mayor seemed to notice that I didn't know how to answer and kept on talking.

"On the other hand, mount Olympus is an obvious reference to the Greek culture. The name comes from the highest mountain in that country where the gods lived over all mortals in its summit"

"Although in the message says tower, not mount. That can't be an accident"

"A tower, something man made, not from nature. Maybe what it means is to go to the highest tower around here. Some kind of building maybe?"

"In that case, the most likely is going to be in the capital"

The capital, a metropolis much more developed and completely different from this place. Comparing both, our home would be a town close to the countryside and full of trees. If someone watched the sight from an helicopter they would saw green stains between each house and in the frontier. On the contrary, the capital is a jungle of asphalt, nothing more than greys in the horizon of a much bigger size. Skyscrapers that easily reach the clouds, so many architectural works that pop to sight. If they mean the highest tower in the surroundings without a doubt it's there.

"Indeed, I also think so. Although the trip there will be very dangerous. We are pretty far away, even on vehicle it will take a couple of hours and we don't know what is out there" he said very serious. He looks really worried.

"I know. But still..." something inside me is pushing me to do it. It tells me to go there, that is the sign I was waiting for. The truth is a little more close. "I must go there, whatever it takes" I kept on telling him.

Doesn't matter how hard it is neither how much time it would take. I'll go no matter what.

"I believe nothing I say will make you change your mind. If there is someone considered to be a chosen by the light it must be you. I will make sure you get some escorts until the next city, but they will only take you that far. From there on you will be on your own, it's alright?"

"Thank you very much, it's more that I expected. I really appreciate it"

The next morning there was a vehicle outside my house with 3 military on it.

"You are the one that we must escort? We have to risk our lives for a kid like you?" asked the captain on charge.

"I promise we'll arrive safely. Nevertheless on the way back you'll have to take care of yourselves and be careful not to find any trouble" I answered firmly.

With a sarcastic smile he opened the door of the car, I got in and we march. Crossing the city border I looked back to give a last sight to my home.

See you soon I thought, I'll make sure to come back when I find my answers.
