The Fortress of the Chosen part 1 (V)

In the moment I descended from the building I observed on the middle of the street the silhouette of a person getting close.

"Hey!" I heard a scream coming from that place.

A tall woman with short hair, long pants and a dark green jacket stayed still at the distance with crossed arms.

"You're... let me guess, won't let me in, right?"

"So you defeated George, very impressive. Welcome, I am Nancy, your second test" said and immediately put on attack position.

I knew it, I hate being correct.

"Wait, I don't want to fight! I only want some answers"

"Maybe you'll get some after defeating me..." then she materialized a bazooka out of nowhere and aimed at me. "But I am not as weak as that other asshole!"

From her weapon a giant missile was shot.

"You have to be kidding me!" I yelled while I dodge it by a few centimetres thanks to my thumb skill.

After her attack failed it rose in the air and exploded, that made me lost balance and fell face to the floor.

"Wooow, you evade it! You really have potential. Let's see if you can keep up"

Again the woman prepare herself for a new attack.

Is this city filled with lunatics? Who in his right mind will come to speak with these crazy persons? I already thought that the sniper was out of his mind, this one is even worse!

If the members of the welcome committee are this special, I don't want to know how extreme their leader can be. Perhaps it's better to leave this place once and for all as fast as I can.

However... maybe there is someone who knows what it's happening. Is it worth to risk my life to know the answer?

"Ahhh, dammit!" I said getting up.

I spent all my strength on the last fight and is still too soon to use my index finger again. Can I cut the missile without receiving the damage of the explosion? It's very risky, I'll need to keep on evading her attacks and try to approach, but at this distance I'm completely in a disadvantage.

In that moment I heard a noise from the location where the crazy woman was standing and a flash of light appeared. Smoke started to emanate around her preventing me from seeing clearly.

What happened? Exploded in her face? Impossible, she doesn't seems the type that made those kind of mistakes. No, this is different. A flash grenade?

"Shit! Those stupids normal people took advantage that I had my guard down"

Who is she referring with that? I looked back and saw a vehicle approaching and stopped between us. A person lowered the window and spoke to me.

"Are you on their side!?"

"With those crazies? No way" I answered.

"Excellent, in that case come with us. Hurry!" said opening the door.

I doubted for a second, in the end I accepted the offer and entered. Anything will be better that dealing with these madmen... right?

Then it accelerated and drive deeper into the city.

"Welcome, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Leah, I'm a member and leader of the resistance" said formally the girl at charge.

"I feel I already had too many welcomes for one day... I'm Asriel"

"So you are the one who took care of the guard?" asked the driver.

"Yes I'm, you know that I'm not on their side, right?"

"I suppose we can assume that, for now at least"

"In that case, can you tell that man to stop pointing at me with his gun? I don't pretend to attack you or anything like that"

At last, behind me it was a man that pointed constantly to my head with a pistol.

"Sorry, but it's for our own safety. We can't let our guard down until we are sure that you aren't a member of the cult of light"

"Cult of the light?"

Here we go again, obviously they refer to the people with abilities that live in the capital. How many different names can exist to address the same meaning? It's about time that we get to a consensus on a single name.

Well doesn't matter, I already know the topic that they are talking.

"In fact" answered Leah. "They are the group of people who took control of the city after the events of the day of the Apocalypse. Since then they have claimed ownership on all the territory and exiled the rest of the citizens"

"Eh? Wait a moment, what do you mean by exiled? If they have these powers shouldn't they be protecting the city and their inhabitants?"

"You really don't have a clue of what is happening? Why are you even here?"

"A message arrived to my home saying that this city is the meeting place for the chosen by the light"

"So he pretends to build an army? Seriously he is crazy"

"Can you explain me what the hell is happening? I don't understand anything that's going on"

"... I'll have to start from the beginning"

Leah started to explain in details the events that took place and ended in this present situation...
