That received raised eyebrows. 'Living dangerously, aren't you?'


Uncomfortable, Noel said, 'This is the first time I - except once, years ago - ' then remembered Cairns and stopped.


'Have you ever used contraceptives of any type?'


The doctor went back to her notepad. 'I'll give you a prescription for the pill. If you don't want to get pregnant, have it filled and start taking it. Okay?'


Noel nodded and the doctor patted her hands.


'It'll also help to regulate you. Get that blood test done and I want to see you again in two weeks. There's probably nothing to worry about, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.'


The doctor patted her stomach. 'I look huge but I've got another ten weeks.' As she ushered Noel to the door she said, 'Get that prescription filled. It's much more satisfactory than the alternative.'
