He wouldn't have found your parents for you; he'd have taken you into court with no-one for support. He'd have tried his best but the result would've been the same. So don't take it out on me. You're charged with murder. But unless the judge directs otherwise it'll be open to the jury to find you guilty of a lesser charge. And being realistic that's what we've got to work for.' She didn't know if he was listening. 'If they find you guilty of manslaughter, with no previous record, you could get a fairly light sentence.' A tear spangled his eyelashes and spilled onto his cheek. Elisabeth went to kneel beside him. 'I'm not giving up.'
