Chapter 30: Honey gets sent packing

There was no point in staying mad.

'You can't stay. I've got this trial on Monday.'

Honey was drinking Robert's coffee. 'There's today and tomorrow and I've never been to a trial. I could come.'

'I thought Allan was home.'

They were sitting on the two-seater settee, Elisabeth's feet tucked up. Suddenly exasperated Honey said, 'I don't know why you just don't tell me. You know you will eventually.'

'A lot's happened lately. How do you expect me to be?' Subjected to a silent quiz Elisabeth stood it for as long as she could before issuing a warning. 'You're annoying me.'

There was no deflecting a friend of twenty years. The raven fringe and side bangs were shaken back. 'Robert Murphy isn't a rebound thing, is he? Or am I imagining something there?'

'Yes you're imaging something.' Elisabeth wasn't about to be faced down.

'You're going somewhere at four?'

'What is this? An interrogation?'

Honey relented, 'Sorry,' and so did Elisabeth, telling her what she wanted to know.
