Chapter 64: It was like being drunk

Throbbing in her legs wakened her.

Another period of confusion before recollection. Then an anxious loosening and gritting of teeth as blood, too long denied, coursed through deprived veins. Arms draped around the steering wheel and head on wrists she waited with gritted teeth for the pain to subside. Cold, shivering, she lay for a long time. And felt no worse. The bleeding must have stopped.

What time would it be? Nine o'clock when she left the shop. Nine thirtyish when she went off the road. Two hours of remembered counting. Add another hour for before and after. Twelve thirty on Thursday morning. She would put money on not being found until light. She could survive until then. But she should have taken Robert into her confidence. She fell asleep.
