"Cristine!"
I turn to see the aforementioned who calls me from the other end of the road. It's Maia, my best friend. I smile like crazy and throw myself at her, hugging her.
"So long," we jumped for joy. We had spent two months without seeing each other and now we were one again. Maia and I were close friends since we were little girls since Mom and Aunt Anne were too. So Maia and I were raised as sisters.
"Yes, I have so much to tell you" she separates "we went to many places in Canada, I had not been going for so long. My mom and dad spoiled me too much on this trip."
We walked towards the entrance of the high school. Everyone was arriving, greeting each other and getting up to date on the things they left pending. It had been a very long vacation. Here in Lewiston it was starting the year and another school year. It was my junior year of school.
"Glad to hear, Maia, at least you spent more time with them," I tell her.
"I know. And you tell me, where did you go with my uncles? We were so isolated these months" Mom had taken me to visit my grandmother in California, we had gone to the beach, everything is so sunny there, and the sea, the sand, the sea breeze. I loved it. I didn't even want to come. On the other hand, here it was all darker and colder. That's why I was always so warm. I think I went out to mom.
"Hey, blonde! Didn't your daddy bring you today? Has the spoiled girl stopped being the spoiled girl?" Greg scoffs at me. His friends followed him to laugh.
Yes, I longer missed being bothered. Greg had always annoyed me from kindergarten where I remember him calling me yolk head just because my hair is so yellow. Not blond, not brown: yellow. And of course, my face so white that I actually look like egg yolk.
I made a face at him and ignored him. I said I was spoiled and capricious just because my dad was overprotective and took care of me, but that's what parents do, right? Watch over you. Greg didn't understand.
"Ignore him, he just wants to get your attention," Maia tells me.
"How do you think!"
"It's true"
In that we noticed that a convertible car appeared in pink. Oh no, what was missing.
"Yup, this is going to be a very interesting year."
She was Amanda Stone, the most popular girl around here and the most plastic of all. And of course, she was accompanied by Stacy Blake and Jane Blake. The Blake sisters. They were so weird.
When Amanda and her henchmen got out of the car they looked at us like we were cockroaches that should be squashed. Ha, the feeling is mutual.
Amanda and I are not so close friends that let's say, the girl hates me and I don't even know why. In that another car arrived at the parking lot. At that my heart beat faster and Maia took my arm.
"Look who we have here," she purrs at me, "it's his senior year, Cris, it's time you spoke to him."
Kaleb Gray was getting out of the car. He was so cute and so sexy ... but so unattainable for me. As soon as Amanda saw him she threw herself into his arms and kissed him. I turned my face away immediately. Until just last year those two began to walk.
"We should go to the lockers," Maia tells me.
"Okay," I agreed, out of the corner of my eye I noticed another car was coming but I didn't want to stay to find out who it was, I just followed Maia into the high school to look for the books in the lockers.
"I don't understand how he's with Amanda," I opened my locker, "the two are so different."
"I don't know, Kaleb is very strange and quiet." She remains thoughtful, I don't understand why he is popular here.
"It's because he's handsome." I took the books and sighed.
"Cristina Brown, you're so in love," she bothers me.
I laughed.
"Maybe you're right and I should talk to him," I commented. But I was dying of nerves just having Kaleb in front of me, I think I would be paralyzed.
"You have to because when he goes you're going to lose him, friend"
As I turned to look for my classroom, I ran into someone causing my books to fall to the ground.
"Hey but what..." I didn't finish the sentence because what was in front of me was a stranger: tall, disheveled black hair, eyes black as night, fair complexion. Wow, who is he and where did he come from? He looks like something out of a modeling agency.
"Estem I-I... "I stammered. He raised an eyebrow without understanding. "I didn't notice," I finally said. The boy crossed his arms and smirked.
"I realized," he said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find the direction in this place" He adjusts his room jacket and steps aside without even helping me pick up my books.
What manners!
I blinked several times without really understanding what happened and I bent down to pick up my books because no one else was going to do it.
"I'll help you." Maia crouches next to me.
Well, just Maia.
"Who is that guy?"
We stood up.
"I don't know, but he's very handsome," she said in surprise, "even more so than Kaleb."
"No, no, you're wrong there."Kaleb is the most handsome" I sighed again.
"Oh, Cristine, you are very much in love."
And we both headed to class.

"Despite so many years, they still give the same hamburger as always. They should give something healthier" Maia complains as we sit down to lunch at our usual table.
"That's something that will never change I think." I took a bite of my hamburger, I didn't really dislike it.
"You know? I've been thinking that maybe we'll make study plans at your house, "she said. I put my lips in a single line. I wasn't such a fan of the studio but hey, it's so necessary.
"I don't know," I shrugged.
"The new boy is coming in and I think he's accompanied," he says, "although on second thought I hadn't seen those guys around here, are they new too?"
I looked over my shoulder. The rude boy from now and three other boys came. Wow, a grand entrance because everyone in the cafeteria turned to see them, but something happened. Kaleb and his friends: Patrick, Wade and Hendrick got to their feet and came dangerously close to them.
"But what...?" I hear Maia say. Kaleb faces the rude boy.
I tense up.
"What are you doing here?" Kaleb asks in a threatening tone. The rude laughs. He seems not to be afraid of it.
"As far as I know, Gray, this has long been a free place." He crosses his arms.
"Well, you were misinformed." Now he lowers his voice because I couldn't hear anymore. Even nobody. What were those two up to? Did they know each other? In one quick movement the rude raises his fist and smashes it in Kaleb's face causing him to fall to the floor.
I didn't think about it, I just ran and knelt next to him to prevent that guy from hurting him.
"What's wrong?" I glared at him.
"Get out, Brown, this isn't your problem," Kaleb tries to stand up.
"Wow, Cristine Brown in love with Kaleb Gray," says the boy, "this will be very interesting." Kaleb stands up and throws his self at the boy making them both fall to the ground, I was going to go but a hand takes my shoulder and makes me turn towards her.
"That's their problem, but you and I are going to clear up a few things." Amanda takes my hands and together with her friends they take me out of the cafeteria.
Great, three against one.
That is not very fair to say.
