35.Godly doctor

Ellen's face spasmed when she heard him. She felt like giving his face a tight punch. Wasn't he indirectly calling her greedy?

 The old man was about to continue when a soft babyish voice broke the silence.

 " Little Elly , you should consider the job. You have been so idle that I'm afraid you'll forget how to work. " Sherry who had been playing with Liam at the other corner of the room said. She held her head with her tiny fist and shook it dejectedly. One would think she lost a large sum of money or something very important.

" She has been rejecting job after jobs so as not to give up on her sleep. I'm even embarrassed when my friends ask me about the kind of work my mommy does. "

Ellen "..."

" Ahahaha.... hahaha hah..."

The adults who had been dead serious couldn't hold their laugh any longer. They burst out in laughter. The child was so calculative and good at acting.

 " Effie Lee !! "

 Ellen roared causing the little girl to cower behind her brother. The darkness in Ellen's eyes deepened and she clenched her hands into fists to restrain herself from throwing the tiny thing down the building through the window.

 After much persuasion, Ellen agreed to visit the Li mansion for a week or more as a personal nurse for the old madam hired by Mrs Li as recommended by Dr Hua Chen who was still studying old madam's case to determine the best treatment method.

 Ellen didn't want to agree but the pay was too tempting to ignore. Besides, there was nothing much for her to do. She'd only be resting enjoying the atmosphere in a rich man's house and enjoying free meals.

 Old Hua proposed to email old madam's medical records to Ellen but she said she'd get them from the hospital in order to perfect the act.

 Nobody in the Li family would know her purpose except Mrs Li. She inwardly decided to leave it like this to prevent future disappointment to the family in case Ellen's treatment failed. She was still doubting the young woman's abilities. She'd just inform them that a professional nurse was recommended by the old doctor because the servants at home weren't that knowledgeable in the field of medicine. The person who was supposed to look after the old madam was someone who'd offer immediate assistance incase of an emergency. The nurse would also be noting her changes and report to the doctors to aid in treatment.

 They bid each other good byes and their discussion ended and parted ways. Ellen walked outside and met Hou Lei the handsome man who had saved Sherry, outside the hotel.

 She felt he was a good person so she decided not to pretend that she hadn't seen him.

 " Mr Hou , what a coincidence." She gave him a courteous smile. Hou Lei reciprocated her smile and nodded. He couldn't possibly tell her that he abraptly cut his meeting short after a guard he had placed around her private room informed him that she was leaving, could he?

 " My meeting has just ended. " He lied calmly without blinking an eye. His assistant almost facepalmed. Who was it that almost knocked down the wine bottles in a hurry leaving everyone's mouths wide open when he heard she was leaving?

 " Oh, Mr Hou, it's getting quite late. We should get going, I don't want to be stuck in traffic at night with two children." She said with a slight smile.

 " If you don't mind, let me drop you off." Hou Lei's face was calm on the surface but deep down he was dying in nervousness. He wanted to spend some time with her to know more about her.

 " Thank you so much Mr Hou but I had arranged with a taxi driver friend of mine to pick me up. It was great meeting you, please do take care. " She gave him a bright smile.

 The children's mouths dropped open. Their mommy is so dumb, can't she find another excuse? What taxi friend?

 Hou Lei was a bit disappointed but he didn't show it on the face. He'd create other opportunities to meet her in the future. The flash of disappointment in his eyes didn't pass the hawk like eyes of the little girl. She pitied the poor man. He was so hot but he just had to lay his eyes on her dumb and heartless mommy.

 After exchanging some pleasantries, Hou Lei waved at them before leaving.

Ellen waited for almost 15 minutes before boarding a taxi. She was angrily cursing her awful luck. They left the hotel and went to Old Song's restaurant to join the others. She was dead tired that she felt her soul leaving her body. The children were already asleep by the time they arrived at the restaurant.
