Monster Hunting Expedition - Part 2
We decided to head back to the camp and as we were walking back we heard a loud howl and felt a gust of wind rush in behind us. A large wolf with white fur and wounds all over its body appeared a few meters behind us.
The Wolf King was a lot larger than the normal wolves. It was taller than me and the blood from its wounds contrasted with its white fur, giving it a more menacing look. It's third eye on its forehead shined red, resembling a precious ruby
"T-T-That's the wolf king!" Hannah said worriedly as she readied her wand, her hands visibly shaking.
"Everyone calm down! It looks injured. Remember what Instructor Brandon said. Focus on defending and retreat!" I reminded the group.
Julius and Martin headed to the front of the group to form the formation and I stood behind them protecting Hannah and Luna.
"Hannah! Luna! We'll hold it off, you guys run and look for Instructor Brandon and Katie!" I told the two girls.
"N-No, we'll fight with yo-"
"I said run! Please, just go and get help!" I cut Luna off, screaming, my eyes fixed on the Wolf King as I used my [Identify] skill.

As I said those words to Luna, Hannah grabbed her and began to run towards the camp. Julius and Marin held their weapons ready and waited for the Wolf King to attack.

The wolf king lunged towards Julius so quickly that he had no time to react, jumping back as soon as its attack had landed.
"Raise Earth!" I screamed as I raised my hand towards the Wolf King. The block of earth was easily destroyed and Julius was hit with one of it's claws.
"Julius, you alright?!" I screamed, completely forgetting to use honorifics.
"It got me good. I can't use my left arm anymore." Julius's pained voice was heard.
"Martin! Take Julius and get away from here. Use Raise Earth behind me as you run! I'll buy you some time." I screamed at Martin.
Martin wasted no time and ran towards Julius grabbing him and lifting him over his shoulder and ran towards the camp.
"I can still fight! Let go of me!" Julius ordered.
"Julius! You're hurt! Go now if you still want that arm to be salvaged!" I screamed with authority in my voice.
"Fine! But you must come back alive! We must settle the score for Lu-" Julius' voice gets cut off by the block of earth that was raised behind me. I held my sword with two hands and stared at the Wolf King.
"I guess it's just you and me, Wolf King." I said to the Wolf King.
Whoosh!
The Wolf King clawed at me with incredible speed.

Seeing the speed of the Wolf King, I realized that I had no chance of escaping by running. The only way I can survive is to kill it and with its current injuries, it was possible.
"Fire Bullet! Wind Bullet! Earth Bullet! Water Bullet!" I casted the spells over and over again until I ran out of mana.

'Shit.' I said in my mind. I managed to hit him thrice. Once in the body and two on the legs.

'He still hasn't used any spells to attack me. Why is his mana going lower?' I try to think of the reason as I stay on guard from its attacks. 'Wait, is its incredible speed due to wind magic?' I realized.
'I just need to dodge or block its attacks till it runs out of mana.' I thought as I kept my guard up.
Whoosh!

It lunged towards me to attack again, I barely managed to block its claws with my sword and felt a sharp pain at my shoulder, sending me flying and hitting one of the trees.

"Aghhh!" I scream in pain and as I stare at the Wolf King, I start to feel fear welling up in my heart.

'It uses 20 mana for that incredible speed. I just need to block it once more and it'll be a fairer fight.' I thought to myself.
The Wolf King seemingly understanding my intentions jumped straight towards me, giving me no time to get ready.
This time, I only managed to block it as I began to feel its claws slash at my chest.

"Fuck!" The front of my clothes were torn off, revealing my wounded chest out in the open. I feel blood dripping down to my abdomen, luckily I was able to block it, making the cut not deep enough. The Wolf King jumped back to give some distance between itself and me.
"You sure are smart, doing a hit and run tactic." I scream at the Wolf King as I steady my stance.

"Now you're out of mana and no more insane speed with wind magic." I said as I rushed towards it with my sword in hand.
It was a lot slower than it was when using magic. It was only slightly faster than the normal wolves we fought a while ago.
I feel my sword connect with its body, slashing through its skin and blood gushing out from the wound. I kept rushing and slashing the Wolf King, not giving it time to rest

I managed to get four hits in before it was able to jump back far enough to create some distance. It stared at me and began to growl, showing its rage. The Wolf King howled at the moon that was slowly making its way to the top of the sky.
We both ran towards one another at the same time. Screaming, I held the sword with two of my hands and ran towards it with all my might.
It jumped to claw at me. Seeing this, I slid underneath it and slashed its belly, creating a long cut with my sword.

'I can win!' I thought to myself. The Wolf King howled in pain as it stared at me, more rage building up within it. We looked at each other and knew that the last hit would be the deciding factor of the battle.
We circled around each other. The Wolf King's and my blood dripping onto the ground. We stopped moving and stood opposite each other, waiting for the first one to strike.
Whoosh!
The Wolf King rushed at full speed towards me as I stood my ground. It got in front of me in seconds and prepared to claw at me once again. I jumped to the side a little too late and felt its paw come into contact with my body. As it's paw hit my body I slashed at it's other paw, slicing it off cleanly before I was sent flying from its successful hit.

I disregard the screen as I hear something crack from inside of me. 'I think I broke something' I thought to myself and turned to look at the Wolf King ruggedly breathing, now lying down on the ground with one of its paws detached from its body.
I struggled to stand up, using my sword as support. I slowly walked towards the Wolf King and stared at it.
"I win…" My voice sounded hoarse when it left my mouth, blood trickling at the side of it. I raised my sword as high as I could and slashed it downwards on its neck.

Multiple screens popped up after I killed the Wolf King. I sat down next to the dead Wolf King and put my back against its bloodied fur. I stare at the sky and see that the moon has reached its highest point.
'We've been fighting for so long…' I thought to myself. 'With this, can I say that I've gotten stronger, even just a tiny bit?'
I hear the sound of multiple footsteps running towards my direction, getting closer and closer. I struggled to get up and held my sword with both hands, my legs shaking from the exhaustion and the pain from my wounds.
"John Colton! Are you o...kay?" Instructor Brandon was surprised as he saw the decapitated body of the Wolf King to my side. He regained his senses when he saw me, bloodied and barely hanging on.
"Katie! Quickly, take John and bring him to the camp!" Brandon screamed
Katie stood dazed at the sight of the dead Wolf King as well and only got back to reality when Brandon's voice echoed through the dense forest.
"Yes! I will!" She replied.
I dropped my sword at the sight of both of them and went down on my knees, tears started to stream down my face. I see Instructor Katie running towards me and she caught my falling body with her arms.
"Are… the others… safe?" I let out those words as I looked up at her.
"Yes, they're at the camp getting healed. You can rest now, John. You did a good job." Katie said.
"Tha...nk… you…" I closed my eyes and with a smile, everything turned dark.
