The salty sea was the only scent Selene could remember of her mother and father.
Her father, Ken was a fisherman, and one night during some late-night fishing, he noticed a figure in the moonlight on the beach. It was Luna's mother, Delilah.
Delilah was a siren that had watched man-kind for years in fascination.
While trying to convince her pod to not kill unlikely men that hear their songs, she was beaten and banished.
Ken took care of Delilah for months. He helped her gain confidence again in her swimming and even allowed her to sing for him for a little while. Pretty soon, they grew to care for and love each other.
After 3 years of being together, Delilah gave birth to her baby girl.
She named her daughter after the moon goddess. Delilah's kind worshiped the celestial plane, and when she saw her baby, only the goddesses name came to mind, Selene
It was a peaceful 10 years before Deliliahs pod had discovered she not only didn't kill Ken but had a half-breed child.
They assembled a small group of assassins to eliminate the family. Unfortunately for Selene, they had chosen the day her school was taking her class to the Zoo.
They snuck into the house after Selene had gotten on the bus. Delilah and Ken were eating breakfast discussing moving more inland when they were attacked.
The couple leaped into action fighting with all their strength, Ken didn't notice one of the assassins behind him until it was to late. Hearing Kens scream shook Deliliah to her core. Her ears rung as she attacked in a blind rage. After defeating a few of the assassins, she began to fight and weep. Too blind with tears she didn't see the last of the assassins throw his pointed spear. It went through her heart. Delilah fell next to ken reaching out for his hand before she bled out.
The Assassins had searched the house and assumed that the half breed hid well, but after hours they gave up and left to the sea.
At the end of the day, Selene bounded out of the bus and ran to her house
"Mom! Dad!" She called coming in the door. Not hearing their voices she assumed they were outback. Before she checked she was going to get a snack in the kitchen.
Stopping in the kitchen door way Selene froze seeing the bloody mess of her parents together on the floor. All Selene could do was scream and fall to her knees crying her heart out. She grabbed her parents hands feeling the cold hands.
"Wake up! Wake up! This isn't funny!!!" Selene cried out to the bodies shaking her head, Selene ran to the beach by her house and hid in her secret cave near the shore.
Without realizing the time she began to see the water start to fill up the cave for high tide. Selene was panicking. She tried to swim out but the waves kept beating her against the rocks.
After trying a few more times, Selene gave up. She sat at the back of the cave feeling the water come up to her ears. Taking her last breath she prayed to be reunited with her parents.
Expecting to drown, she realized she could still breathe. Opening her eyes she gasped at what she was witnessing.
Her legs had turned into a dark-colored fishtail.
"What's happening?!" She muttered looking at her webbed fingers. After her eyes adjusted to the dark she swam out of the cave and into the bay. It was well past dark and looking back at her house she saw the flashing light of the police and ambulance.
Shaking her head and dived into the dark waters swimming away from all her pain. After going as far as she could swim she saw an old sunken shipping unit. After getting it open she saw an assortment of items.
There were crates, full of clothes, sails, and whaling equipment. Selene was digging through the various crates when she hit the harpoon gun with her tail.
Shooting off in the crate she yelped in surprise.
Turning to the whaling weapon, Selene pulled it out of the softened wood and began examining the weapon. "hmmm" she hummed thinking of ways she could use it. Taking the rope off the end she tied the harpoon to her torso and went to explore more of the harbor.
She found a large patch of rocks at the edge of the harbor. Selene watched the lights of the city and boats pass by. Hearing a small paddle boat she could see 2 teenage boys rowing to her.
Suddenly Selene found her singing. She closed her eyes and she sang out soothing notes drawing the boys in. When she opened her eyes, she could see the all horrible things they have done. From hurting girls to stealing, Selene only felt disgusted at the images.
When the boat made contact with the rocks, Selene bit the boy's necks and began to devour their flesh. She couldn't stop her anger when more horrible images were seen. She could see the terrified faces of those they had wronged.
Without realizing how long she had been seeing the images she pulled away and looked at the bloody and eaten bodies. Selene began shaking and looking at her blood-covered hands.
This was the way of the siren and she didn't like it one bit. But then a warm feeling rose in her chest. she knew all the victims she had seen were avenged and she could feel the relief of the victims bloom in her chest.
This was a power she could help others with their pain and rid the world of other evils. Jumping in the water Selene washed the blood off her body and swam off in the dark waters.
Selene didn't know where she was going but she knew she was going to help others with their pain...
