Not So Hopeless

"Why isn't she glancing over in my direction? Was she thinking less of me now that she saw a louder side of me? Or was regretting complementing me earlier?" he thought to himself anxiously. Does she think I'm aggressive? Why oh why did I have to get caught up in a scene today in front of her!!" thought Samuel as he pitied himself.

Frustrated over Ashley's sudden lack of interest in him he finally kicked the ball lightly over to the girl's direction, hoping to catch their attention and to catch Ashley's gaze one more time, so he could feel whatever thing the two had wasn't over. Now that he had the chance to come near the girls with the excuse of getting the ball, he could interact with her while looking casual.

"He did it on purpose!! I'm telling you he did it on purpose!!" exclaimed Anna as she tried convincing her friend it wasn't so hopeless after all.

"I don't know... I am gonna believe it when he does something for real," said Ashley, rolling her eyes still struggling to understand Samuel feelings for her, still not looking in his direction, and keeping herself busy by going through the Oral Anatomy book she had in her hands.

As Sam came closer, he kept his eyes focused on the ball until he was just a few feet away and their eyes met once again but this time Ashley didn't say anything, she didn't even smile. After all, she had done things to make Samuel feel less nervous around her but now it was Sam's turn to reciprocate, to show if he was willing to do something to keep her in his life. She looked away for a second and then back at him hesitantly. Sam finally passed a soft smile at her hoping the spark in his always cheery mystery girl would return, hoping the sudden awkwardness between them would vanish and he would enjoy their little glances at each other once again. After a long shared look, Ashley forcefully smiled back at him.

"Sam you coming?" his friends called out from behind. "Be right there!" he answered loudly as he turned around back at them, with his back now at the girls.

She looked at him as he walked away still unsatisfied with what he had to offer.

"Ashley! I have my class starting now in like five minutes, do you wanna join me in?" asked Zoey

"Uhh yeah sure! Anna, you wanna come with me?"

"Umm, I think you go ahead! I have a couple of old school friends here at this college, I think I'm gonna text them and meet them now that we are here today!"

"Sure!"

"Sam!! I am gonna go take Biochemistry class! You coming?" screamed another girl, standing at the door of the lecture hall. This was the first time Ashley was seeing this girl, she wasn't the same friend who used to come over with Sam to study over at the library. She was around 5ft 2 inches in height, wearing white jeans with a light pink tank top, with a shimmering dark pink scarf on her shoulders, her eyes bluer than the sea, her hair strawberry blonde, silky straight looking like a waterfall, she was very attractive.

"No! I'm gonna skip it!" He answered back to her.

"Who is this?" Ashley asked Zoey intrigued about who this girl was as they passed right by her into the lecture hall.

"Oh she is kind of like his best friend here at college!" she replied casually.

"What's her name?" asked Ashley still curious

"Emma."

As the students started gathering inside the lecture hall, Zoey took the seats in the first row.

"Zoey, can we please go sit at the back? This isn't even my class. Please let's go find the seats in the back rows." cried Ashley scared of getting caught of not being from the college.

"Okay okay!" laughed Zoey. "I was just teasing you!"

The professor soon entered and started the lecture of the day on the topic "Lipids"

"How long is this lecture?" whispered Ashley who was already exhausted with how the day was going.

"It just started. It is a sixty-minute lecture so you're not getting done with it anytime soon.

"Uhhh this day couldn't get any worse!" cried Ashley as she quietly put her head against her chair, leaning her body against it.

It was after ten minutes when the lecture hall door opened again, she glanced up to see who it was, only to be surprised to see it was Samuel. "Didn't he tell his friend he wasn't gonna take this class? Did their practice end quickly? Or was there something else that changed his mind?

He stood there in front of the whole class, near the entrance door, his eyes quickly scanning through the class like he was searching for something or someone."Probably looking for Emma." Ashley thought to herself until his eyes landed on her face and he quietly starting walking up to where she was sitting.

Ashley looked away from him. "What is he doing?" she thought to herself. She could feel her legs go numb, as he casually walked up to the row just behind hers and took the seat right behind her and Zoey.

Just when she had thought that everything between her and Sam was hopeless, the same shy and nervous Sam was trying to do something. She tried not to look at him from the corner of her eye. Tried not to give him any attention until after five minutes she heard an angelic voice from behind close to her right ear sending shivers down her spine, "Hi Ashley!"

Two words from his lips were enough to send her to another planet. She could feel the adrenaline rush coursing through her veins. Her heart felt like it was thumping in her ears. Her mind going blank. "What is he doing to me? What kind of magic spell am I under?"
