Chapter 18

Mat did what anybody would do when he got back home after the interview. He searched the internet for Suzan more carefully. Indeed, she was the daughter of the governor of this municipality. She was also in dozens of articles that focused on her middle school achievements in writing and her relationship with her father. That said, everything was milk toast, bland and not interesting.

"Is she being watched just because she happens to be the daughter of a politician? That is so sad!" he said to himself but then...it could just be hidden.

"No, she did not look like a criminal!" he said and opened a chat with her. He saw her just two hours ago so he hesitated.

Hi! Thank you for the interview! I almost forgot to mention that I write articles on the internet so it is possible you will find my name under some. So don't be surprised! ☺

He sends her a message and starts writing to Lucas right away. Just to explain why he joined with her WW and to check out the article.

While he was not happy in the center of attention, he still went to look at the club presentation. The clubs brought some tables and chairs outside of the building and talked with students who had free time from class. They all simply used their WW to project a holograph with the name of their club in bright colors and simply decorated their table with props.

Mat walked slowly, but sadly for him, not alone. Thomas joined him and with a bit too much energy looked at almost every club. Mat did not have the energy to argue and simply went with him to check them too.

"Cooking club!" Tom said surprised and even Mat curiously looked in that direction. There were quite a bit people around it because they have snacks. While Mat took a cookie Tom talked with the club members and disappointment came to Mat.

"What is it?"

"They don't take just anybody, you have to pass the entrance exam,"

"Clubs have entrance exams?" Mat asked surprised.

"Some, mostly the bigger ones,"

"Hmm, I guess it makes sense. I know they can just take in everybody who wants in,"

"Ah look there is the 3D modeling club,"

"Wait now I want to look at that club,"

"Macro-economics?" Thomas asked with a boring look but still followed Mat. The club had only one representative sitting behind the table.

"Hi..."

"Hmm? Do you want to get rich? Go elsewhere! This club has an exam and deals with university-level theory,"

"Oh..."

"So? Do you want to see an example of the questions?" the boy sitting behind the desk was pretty tall, but he barely looked at Mat.

"No thanks," so this was what Suzan meant with meeting people...

"Tom, there are two more clubs I want to check out can we get there first?"

"Why look for them when we can just look around. Also, you would ditch me afterward and your tastes are boring,"

"Your honesty is killing me, fine..."

"It's not like we have time to look everywhere, class is about to start!" Tom was right, even at the end of the day, they could not get to every club, mostly because there were simply too many people. The school was big and there were four first-year classes with twenty students each.

The next day the article was out and Mat happily read it on the way to school. It was fairly long, mostly because of the fact the school journalists did not exactly have such an interesting topic so often. It was well written, Suzan's past writing achievements were shown. She even embellished some of Mat's responses so he sounded more coherent and well-spoken. She did not use the video footage completely only the basic introduction and photo. He was genuinely happy with the article's tone and so he approved it right away and just asked why she did not simply post the video.

After that, he was ambushed by Tom at the school entrance and spend the time before the class listening to some very passionate 3D modelers explaining how handcrafted 3D models are better than the machine scanned copies. It looked like Tom really liked it and thought of joining.

"Don't worry I am still not hundred percent sure, so I will go look at others with you!" he said and every free period they went outside.

"You like the attention?" Mat asked in response since Suzan publish the article already and to make it better, she projected his picture with the article as the club promotion. She asked for permission and he granted it, thinking that way they will all focus on him for a few days and the buzz will die off quickly.

"Really they made you into an ad, is that fine?" Tom asked.

"It is fine to let her have some fun," however Mat did not expect the club representatives to suddenly specifically focus on him and call him out. After three times he was semi-forced to check their clubs even Tom knew it was too exhausting and helped him leave.

"Well, that was something,"

"I hope tomorrow it will be better!"

"We can go around and look at the clubs behind the school, it's mostly new or small or not popular clubs, so there will be fewer people there," Tom suggested.
