Chatpter 3: The Decision

After that day, everything seemed to fall into place almost immediately. I spent the rest of the evening and the next day arranging my room and the spare room. I decided to just make it a bedroom because knowing Adonis (which I do), it wouldn't be long since he used my place as a second home.

The next day, Haru asked me if I'd like to go grocery shopping with him since he noticed my empty fridge and the delivery men that came to my door in abundance. I gladly took the offer because he knew the area better than me. Plus he had a car and that means I can stock up properly since I'll be starting work pretty soon. There was an adorable, awkward nature about him that I found endearing and yet he had quickly become one of the most responsible people I knew. And we've only known each other for 3 days.

He took me to a farmer's market that was open everyday of the week. Not only did they sell some of the freshest produce I'd ever come across but they also sold some really good food. He also took me to a nearby shop where I could buy some other things like cleaning supplies and snacks.

It would be safe to say that by the time the weekend was over I was well and truly settled in.

After the weekend comes Monday. And with Monday comes work. I'd managed to get a position a creative assistant at a digital marketing firm. I was very excited on my first day and rightfully so. The moment I got ther I was welcomed and started immediately. It was engaging and enjoyable. On top of that I'd managed to make a friend. Her name is Faye. The moment she introduced herself to me, I knew that she was creative. That's not to say that we all weren't 'creatives'. She just outshines us and I think that's what decided it for me.

I quickly fell into a routine. That's the best part of all of this. Figuring out what your day will be like and controlling which task you do at what time. I'm genuinely in love with my life.

Regardless of all this there's a thought that has stayed in the back of my mind ever since I stepped out of my old bedroom. The letters. I don't know why but they've been giving me such ominous vibes recently which I don't understand since they're tied to some of my favourite childhood memories.

The thought of the letters were haunting me now even as I'm having dinner with Haru and Megumi. Was it necessary? No. Especially since Haru had made such amazing fried chicken and potato wedges. They were even making it hard to enjoy the meal (a first now that I think about it). By the end of dinner I was more than a little frustrated about the whole ordeal. I couldn't help but sulk a little as I helped wash the dishes.

"Was it the wedges?" Haru's voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Huh?" I ask. I turn to look at him leaning on the counter. I guess he managed to get Megumi to sleep. Or at the very least, stay in bed.

"Was it the wedges that got you sulking at my dishes?" He asked with a smile. I'm not sure if he's joking or actually concerned about his cooking.

"Definitely not. Your food was amazing. I fact I'm pretty sure you could put Gordon Ramsay to shape." I chuckled. I didn't mean to make him nervous. Its just those damned letters. "Why did you think it was your wedges though? It could have been the chicken for all you know."

"Hell nah. My chicken is perfect in every way." He smirked.

"And who made such bold claims?!" I laughed.

"My grandma who perfected the recipe for years." He grinned.

I rolled my eyes and dried my hands.

"Is she asleep?" I ask.

"Yeah. That play date she went on really did a number on her. I should send her on more of those." He grinned.

I reached for the dish towel and whacked him in the stomach with it. He dodged it easily and laughed loudly before smacking his hand over his mouth and keeping quiet.

Now it was my turn to laugh because I'd never seen someone transition from uncontrollable laughter to uncontrollable panic so quickly. I was quieter than him of course but it was too funny to stay quiet.

After I'd calmed down, I looked up at the clock on the wall. It was almost 11pm which was pretty late for me. I like to be in bed by 10 30pm. Haru walks with me to my place and invites me to dinner again next week. I eagerly agree. Maybe a little too eager. But the smile on his face tells that e doesn't care. We say our final goodbyes and I head in.

My head immediately snaps to "night-time routine" mode and I head o the bathroom to take a shower, clean my face and brush my teeth. Once I'm done, I head to my room, change into my pajamas and lay in bed. As I close my eyes, I realize that I'd made a decision sometime during the night but I'm too sleepy to even question it.

I'll read the letters and find my penpal.
