Chapter 11
Sofya
Los Angeles, California
The sun was slipping in through the window as I lay in bed staring at the ceiling. Groggily, I stepped out of bed and yanked open the curtain enclosing the window. The bright sunlight shot in, stinging my eyes. Has last night been real? What about that guy, Hypnos, who was he, and more importantly if that hadn't been a dream. Where had I gone? I sighed a thought for another time. I went to the bathroom and brushed the knots out of my hair and freshened up then headed to my oversized closets. I threw on some jeans with a t-shirt and walked downstairs.
Alex was in the kitchen eating some cereal on a bar stool. He smiled brightly at me as I entered.
"Morning newest aemon." He greeted me with his bright yellow eyes sparkling in the light, a shimmery gleam coming off of them.
"Hey," I said back, grabbing an apple off the counter basket. I was starting to think I had a strange obsession with eating apples every morning. It was still weird to think I wasn't human but it made sense. I kind of knew there was something off about me anyway. I mean, I don't think normal humans can breathe underwater. I was still freaked out by what Ash had called a precognition, amongst other things. Oh, I hoped he was wrong. Because I had no plans of being in any battles in the future and none with Ash dying. I was so embarrassed that I had fainted on him.
I didn't want to face him at the moment and I was furious he fake drowned on me. I mean come on! Who freakin' pretends to die on someone? It was traumatizing, I thought he was dying. So, yeah I was extremely pissed, rightfully pissed.
Suddenly the doorbell rang with a loud chime. Who could that be?
"I'll get it," I told Alex. I walked over to the door and pulled it open, but before I could see who it was, something hard hit me square on the head and all went black.
There were little dots at the edge of my vision as I came to. I blinked and looked around. I was in a limo and handcuffed to the door. In the front, a scrawny middle-aged man was driving. In the passenger seat a woman with graying hair in a fancy black pants suit.
My brows scrunched in confusion. I felt the anger boiling in my veins as the energy inside me slid down my arms and down to my hands, just waiting to explode. Let it out Sofya. Let me out. I tugged at the handcuffs they wouldn't budge.
"What the hell!" I screamed.
"I see our dear Sofyalisia has finally come to," The pantsuit woman said.
"Who are you and where am I?" I hollered at her still trying to snap the handcuffs, my wrist turning red from the friction.
"I am Willa and this is Fank," The woman said, gesturing towards the man driving. I huffed like I cared what their freaking names were, Willa? Are you kidding me? What the heck kind of stupid name was that? "You're in a limo on the way to the airport, let me explain all of this, I'm sure you're pretty confused."
"No kidding," I said through clenched teeth, giving her an icy glare.
"Well, first of all, you are Sofyalisia Winchester, right? You were born in Hawaii, then moved to Australia. You are 17 and your parents abandoned you about 11 years ago on Bondi Beach and then you went to live with a few different foster parents after that, right?
"That's right" I mumbled, my chest feeling hollow. "So.... Why did you freaking kidnap me!"
"Well, you know of Aleksandr Vasilievich, Alek?" I grimaced, why was she asking about Alek. Everyone knew about him. He was crazy and all over the news.
"Who hasn't, that guy is a complete psychopath." Willa nodded.
"He has control over part of North America, most of the Overworld, Underworld, and over half of Europe, and all of Asia." I frowned. Overworld? Underworld? "He also needs 18 kids that are special to help him take over the world. He may be very powerful but he needs more. He needs to be stopped, and that's where you come in."
"Excuse me?" I laughed. This lady was insane if she thought a bunch of kids could kill Alek. "You think that kids can kill Alek? Even if we are special?" I wondered if she knew about aemons. There was probably more to the story, but Ash hadn't got a chance to tell me yet.
"Yes, and you are special Sofyalisia. If you weren't how would I know you can speak to animals, see in the dark, and create a golden fire out of your bare hands." Willa said giving me a questionable look. "Sofyalisia you are very powerful, even though you may not know it." My eyes widened.
"How, how did you know that?" I stammered. How did she freaking know that? Not even my foster parents had known, not that I'd ever tell those people because if they did then they'd commit me to an insane asylum or sell me to the government, or something crazy like that. OMG. Maybe that's what they had done. But I had never told a single soul. Well, I hadn't till yesterday when Ash had found out, he was the only one who knew and he probably told his friend, Alex. If he was the one responsible for this I was going to kill him.
"Because I know others like you and I knew you, parents, they trusted me to look after you and tell you the truth when the time came."
"Then why am I handcuffed to the freaking door!" I shouted, my face burning. "Are you sure you knew my parents because to me you look like a psycho?" I spat, knew my parents, yeah right, I was calling BS. My parents were very secretive from what I remember, they didn't even speak to the freakin neighbors and I had no childhood friends.
"Yes, I knew your parents. I just wanted to make sure you didn't run away before I tell you the truth," Willa said. "The world as you know it won't exist anymore once I tell you this, Ok?" I simply glared at her. She was delusional.
"First of all, there are four realms in the universe that exist that we know of, Earth, the Underworld, and the Overworld, and The Land of Dreams. Before you ask, the Underworld is not hell and the Overworld is not heaven. In the Underworld they have demons. In the Overworld they have angels. The Land of Dreams has an ancient being named Hypnos. Most legends and myths are true, but there are no zombies or vampires, it's all demons and angels that caused those myths. Like humans, neither species is completely good or bad. There is good and bad in all species but the majority of them have no morals. Also with demons and angels, there are different groups within the species. There are korrigan, incubi, morai, etc. Your mother Bryn was korrigan and your father Galen was gyo. But the most important thing is the legend," Willa said.
"What legend?" I asked skeptically. Ash hadn't said anything about a legend. Wait a minute, did she say Hypnos? Had I gone to the Land of Dreams? Oh my freaking god.
"It's said that the descendant of the first guardian king and lumina queen will rise. She will be of immortal blood but mixed into a pool of lies. With four others by her side, she will change fate. Together they will face the darkest of them all. Together they will be his downfall. The worlds will not face their end, for this is a chance for them to mend. That's you" Willa said. I stared at her bewildered.
"This is a lot to take in, I need some time to process this," I said calmly. This lady was completely batshit insane. How could I kill Alek, Alek, this was just not believable, not in the slightest. Ash had told me about aemons but not much else. We hadn't gotten to talk about it since yesterday, or I think it was yesterday.
I wasn't sure, the windows were tinted and I couldn't see outside. This also made no sense since I was pretty sure it was supposed to be the opposite so people couldn't see you. I slumped back in my seat and groaned. How had I of all people wound up in this mess? I mean I liked to think I was all strong and tough but it was a bit different living that way. How could I kill someone?
"Of course my dear, it will be a few hours before we get to the airport. We are going to a remote island off the coast of Hawaii. It will be safe there for you and we will start your training there." Willa said.
"Um ok," I said, still completely shocked or maybe horrified, no both. I still couldn't believe I had gotten myself kidnapped. Remind me to never answer the door again.
