Recycled air on a ship in space had a certain taste to it, and depending on the ship, it changed. For example, Rafe's old ship, the Annabelle, used to emit a bit of a salty tang with a hint of marine decay because he used the aquatic filters from the Aqquyrion system. Whereas the air Rafe breathed now - deep breath - smelled more of a hot desert, a sand filter produced en masse from one of the many arid planets. A cheap filter that required regular cleaning but was inexpensive to replace.

He clenched and released his buttocks and felt no soreness, and all his limbs appeared to function. That didn't reassure him, though.
