Paving the Golden Road

Was Ko ready for the sudden explosive growth? Not one bit.

Not because he didn't believe in Oliver's skill, and not because he couldn't handle it, but Oliver was really like a King, he was handling everything, from the smallest thing to the largest thing.

It's only been two months since Oliver joined them, and there is a huge list of changes that have taken place because of him.

The first one being the public opinion about the Kings, after they got a better wardrobe, that continuously improved to be more proper, Ko himself no longer in what could be considered cheap suits, they weren't expensive by any means, but not only was the quality improved, but so was how comfortable they were, after some time in a suit, Ko felt it was really good, he never knew a suit could be this comfortable, he almost feels strange when he doesn't have it on.

As the public opinion got better, a few weren't convinced, but not entirely sure how Oliver did it, only a few hours talking with them, and they made the problems seem like nothing but passing gas.

The first thing Oliver did was move the bar from underground to the first floor of the building they were in, there was a lot more room up here, not only for the bar but side rooms. The basement itself in its entirety had its walls knocked out and became a training area for those who wanted to work out here instead of the gym, and for those who were learning to fight, it was known as hell.

Oliver was a demon when it came to training. No one knew how he was so good, people thought it was simply because of his quirk, but they were wrong, even now they are not sure what his quirk is. They noticed that with proper training, all of them had pretty good strength. Their fighting experience and skill is what took a qualitative leap in the right direction due to being hammered by Oliver

Aside from the training place, and the bar being moved, the rest of the building also seen a quality change as well, it looked much nicer, more suited for a finer taste while still being affordable, just from the bar's income alone they were so much better off with their money, Oliver himself watching over it while training someone beneath him so they could eventually do it for him since he had other things he needed to focus on, he would eventually become the finance accountant, all of the Kings expenses, and how much money they were making would be known by this guy, Oliver said he'd only remember his name once he started to actually do what he was being trained to do.

With an increased public image, a better bar, and an overall quality increase all around, the King's felt great, none of them caring that Oliver didn't remember their name, it seemed a little thing compared to what he's doing for them, some of them had kids, and families, and for the first time in their life, they actually felt good about the money they brought him, and some of their marriages and relationships improved once their significant other found out what was happening, a few of them actually got to meet Oliver and most of them had good opinions of him.

One girl was upset Oliver didn't care about her name, and she kept trying to insist that he at least try, but Oliver, halfway through the meeting decided to end it and suddenly stood, she was confused but the guy who was trying to introduce his girlfriend knew something was up, and sure enough.

A few days later, Oliver came to the guy showing proof that he was being cheated on by her, after that Oliver was known as the 'Sage' when it came to relationships, when asked about it he answered vaguely saying. ''He's broken enough of them, to know what's on the inside.'' Kind of scary?

Along with this, Oliver was starting to help finance the buildings around them, for now, it was only a bakery, that was arguably the best bread any of them had ever tried, so not only were they helping finance the building in return for some bread occasionally and a cut of what was made, but also help with advertising, and some of King's stopping in on their own violation to grab snacks or custom orders.

The second business was actually a sandwich spot, and after a few talks, Oliver got the bakery and the sandwich spot to merge, which at first didn't show much increase in income, but after a few weeks, they had a lot of business, not only in the area but even some people calling in to have orders ready when they come in.

It was only around the street they were on, but when asked 'Who is Oliver?' Everyone knew him, his charming smile but calm demeanor, his strength and ability to help people even with the strangest problems. How despite him being young, he was a real good man. The King of the Kings, basically a 'Reverse' Gang, meant to genuinely help people.

The one problem that showed up, was a minor time Hero showing up hearing about a group. Ko could've sworn he heard Oliver under his breath say something like 'That's right, I forgot about these pests.'

But, after the hero searched, and even when they completely allowed a public investigation into everything, it only improved their public appearance that much more. There was only one thing that was illegal and because of how Oliver did it, it wasn't illegal in the slightest. It was a shotgun for the bar.

It was classified as a defensive weapon due to the fact some people stayed on the upper floors like renters with their families, and Oliver had all the necessary paperwork. While also following the proper routes to obtain it, so they couldn't even try to get him for it.

It was around this time they realized despite Oliver's wish to be a 'Legit' group, he knew exactly how to play the law, and exactly how to abuse it to his strengths.

The one thing is Oliver's background was still a mystery to everyone, even the police said that despite all the proper paperwork, apparently, he had been living off-grid for most of his life, when questioned about it he responded like he was used to the questions. Saying that he lived with his grandfather in the forest until he passed away around when he was 14, and being self-studied as much as he was he decided to stay in the forest a bit more. When they asked 'Where' in the forest he lived, he laughed for a good five minutes before he announced that, he actually didn't know.

All his time in the forest and he was never taught directions by his grandfather who believed ''Who needs directions boy? Follow yer gut.'' It was actually by just following the setting sun did he finally find civilization. There was even recorded proof by a few cameras of him coming from a line of trees, staring for a bit before he started to laugh. His appearance is exactly what you would think of a guy who lived in the woods for almost 17 years.

Some of his boys wondered, how the hell did a guy go from living in the forest for most of his life to a sudden badass Boss to a group like them? But, one thing they never questioned is his skill in doing so, more so just wondering what kind of life the boss had lived.
