For the first time in Ann's life she truly felt alone. She had just dropped off the last member of her family. She had put them all in the hands of her husband and her friends. She trusted them with her life. She never thought she would be loosing hers.
Ann knew they would live wonderful lives. As she drove away she envisioned them living in a house with a large backyard. Kids running and playing as Angela did what moms do. A simple life full of companionship and smiles.
Ann knew life had it's struggles even if every need was taken care of. Bliss is a momentary thing. She wished that they would have as many as possible. She was grateful that both her kids lived where saved by Jane. In the same moment her family would still be complete if it wasn't for the project in the first place. She couldn't put all that on Jane. Ann had dirty hands and they would forever be stained with the sins.
Ann recalled the moment of bliss when she started to work with TRN-cells. The potential was unfathomable. She could cure the worst illnesses and rid the world of disease. Cure the body of addiction. The world was at her fingertips. Small trials begin and her excitement was barely contained. She watched as Kyle gave the first set of soldiers the shot. She watched as their body changed. Charting everything from weight to memory recall. Their minds became brilliant and cleaver. She watched not only them changing but their ability to pass it on to another person at point of contact. She watched their bodies turn to their perfect state. She even watched as a person started to regenerate lost body tissue.
At first the serum would last three months. It was given in small doses and the side effects barely existed headaches and body aches. The problem was it could only be given once. The explanation was that the TRN-cells could only be activated once.
The second strand of serum was stronger and painful to some more then others. It lasted longer and the results where extremely promising. The second stand lasted a year. The achievements where double that if the first dose.
The third strand is where it is started going sideways. The pain was starting to become almost unbearable. The men and woman with the highest pain tolerance, where quivering and vomiting. No pain medication seamed to work. They gave them shots of morphine and still the screamed or panted. This was the point that the trial should have ended. When they did overcome the serum they where stronger smarter and more efficient then both parties. They where the Crown Jewels. The only problem was it lasted only eighteen months. After that they stayed the same they couldn't learn fast anymore. All the motor skills where complete this was the best they will ever be their ability was set. None of them complained because they where better then everyone else.
The headquarters still wanted more. The thirst for being the strongest was unwavering. The forth trail was a failure. They lost 4 good men. They died from the extreme changes in their body. The pain was extreme the neural pathways melted before they could rebuild themselves. She watched as they all fell to the floor.
She was examining the first man. He was in the prime of his life. Before the serum he was a prize hunk of eye candy. He was intelligent and lacked in almost nothing. He was nicknamed Superman and there was eyes on him. He was going to change the world. He was going to be their poster child.
Ann watched him quiver and hold his head. She was using a light to check his eyes for dilation when they rolled back in his head. His body flopped down, limp and lifeless. It was almost as if a small explosion went off in his head. A massive brain hemorrhage. The second, third and forth all fell to the floor in the same manner. Excusable losses those words bounced around her head never finding the exit.
Still the pressure was on. They had to solve the problem they had to move forward. The pressure for her authorities was great. Soon after threats started coming in. So Ann and Kyle moved on. They found a way to put them in a coma and to extend the release of the medication. They found four small does done days apart would continue to interact with the the TRN-cells. Yet it did explode them. The pain was bearable and this was adopted procedure to introduce small potions until the TRN-cells stop reacting. This was the new procedure.
Ann wished it had stopped there but it didn't. Next the gas formed. It reacted differently and didn't need booster shots. Some compounds never leave your system. They fused the compounds with the serum. That was when the accident happened. A small bottle fell off the counter and everyone was exposed. They where under quarantine for two weeks with no problem or side effects. The men and woman where finally permitted to go home. They where to stay at home. Then return to see what changes had happened. They had decided that there wasn't enough serum introduced into the system to create a change.
The next set of trials began this time it was a stronger dose of the serum. It worked like a charm the reaction time was longer it took weeks to do what was happening in days. The serum stayed in the system longer creating leaps and bounds towards the super soldier. They healed faster. They never got sick and could stay awake for longer hours without fatigue. Their intelligence, strength, problems solving skills and dedication anything they concentrated on became a reality.
The final stages started to display odd findings. The TRN-cells didn't run out they started to reproduce. Other soldiers that hadn't received the serum started to show Symptoms. It was transferring like a virus. Yet the people who had it transferred to them experienced a one time exposure. The oddest finding was the amount of exposure varies. The oddest case ever was a from a couple one was exposed to the gas stage and the other was severally injured. They somehow both became ill and recovered the same.
Authorities started to get worried. The program was killed. The evidence vanished or was destroyed. Ann was the only last known scientist that worked on the project. She got called in when odd events showed up. She hoped that this would wash over easy. If she and her entire family disappeared someone would come looking. She had to protect them. She was on her way to the hospital and she had to put on her fake face. There was going to be questions and she wasn't going to have any. She had to look lost and worried and devastated. The last one wasn't going to be hard to do.
