And so it begins

Through the front doors down the hallway and through the door located at the very end of the half on the left. That was where a child dressed in all black was found seated on the worn-out wooden floorboards of a less than luxurious apartment holding a ballpoint pen. What sat next to the child was even more disturbing than the dried-up blood covering the child's small frame. Sprawled across the floor illuminated by the faint light seeping through the cracks through the window boarded up with wood was the body of a woman who was later identified as the child's mother. Even with lips that were sewn shut and both eyeballs ripped from their sockets the woman's relation to the child was anything but unknown even before the autopsy. It wasn't a great scene to take in for the four officers that had been called overdue to a complaint about a horrid stench coming from the tiny apartment they now stood in. Located in an extremely sketchy part of town was where the unsuspecting officers had been instructed to travel to after a short lunch break which they had to stomach at the sight of the grotesque scene before them.

One of the less frightened officers who had kicked in the worn-out front door due to the stench of death hitting his nostrils lowered his gun as he inched towards the silent child before him. Many situations run through his mind because of the unknown that lied before him. If he was to immediately touch the child there was no guarantee it wouldn't suddenly lash out and impale him with the ballpoint pen at hand. The officer knew he only had one shot at this and needed to think quickly. While signaling for his fellow officers to call for backup he stopped in front of the young kid leaving quite a bit of space between them and then crouching down to meet the child's face.

The frightened officer was met with the face of an expressionless being with a gash across the tip of its nose which had to be at least a few years old and dark brown eyes glazed over appearing to be lost in a different world.

"Hey kid" Was the only thing the officer felt was right to say in this situation. Without the proper psychological training to calm down any high-risk situation this officer was left with his only best bet.

Speaking to the kid as if there wasn't a literal crime scene right before him.

Perhaps this idea was the man's best decision in his entire life because the earlier unresponsive kid now raised its head making direct eye contact sending chills through the officer's spine. "You know its probably best that we get you a meal you know"- at this point, the officer's partner standing not too far behind with even less experience on the force gasped pretty sure that they wouldn't be escaping this situation alive knowing good and well not to simply underestimate a child especially in a situation like this one.

Somehow the child now brought out of whatever trance it was in simply stared into the officer's very soul as its stomach growled. Nodding his head the officer turned slightly to face one of the three silent officers behind him. "Any of ya got a Nutri-Grain bar on you by any chance?" Immediately rummaging through one of their pockets one of the anxious officers pulled out a crushed Nutri-Grain bar. Sighing, our suicidal officer gestured for his counterpart to hand him what could barely be considered as a meal and peeled it open for the child with a soft smile. It was as if the two were currently on an entirely different plane at this very moment as the child immediately scarfed down the bar and all its contents, setting down the ballpoint pen in the process.

It was at this time that more suitable backup arrived members of an elite squad that dealt with slightly better and worse situations than this one. Although the other officers had already been escorted outside, the extremely stubborn officer decided to stay with the child, picking it up and wrapping it in a light blue blanket.

"I'll get you a better meal next time I promise." The man told the still child who didn't give much of a response to that statement nor to the situation surrounding them. The team around them played it off as a child's innocence, effectively escorting the two to an ambulance aiming to send them to a nearby hospital before bringing in any teams that specialize in working with children for questioning.
