I'm currently reading one of the good part our house history Written down in old tongue on goat skins.. Well, it's not that bad and I have nothing else to do. It's a great way to pass time.
House Magnar of Kingshouse is the principle House of Skagos in the Kingdom of the North. It is located on the island of Skagos at the edge of the Bay of Seals. They are the principle House of the chain of islands which include most notably Skagos and Skane.
House Magnar were the Wardens and High Lords of Skagos in time when Starks were king of Winters. They are also known by raiding aliases, given that Queen Allyria Stark granted them sole raiding rights to the lands Beyond the Wall and Essos.
House Magnar is one of the only three Stoneborn Houses in existence, the other two being House Stane of Driftwood Hall and House Crowl of Deepdown. House Magnar is the strongest of these three Houses military and economically.
House Magnar is situated on the south side of Skagos, but encompasses the intersection between the two headlands that each of the other Houses populate. This gives them a larger border to defend but also means that for House Skane and House Crowl to trade by land, they have to cross through House Magnar's territory, which gives House Magnar a trade advantage. This geographic positioning gave rise to our supremacy within the Stoneborn Houses.
In the year 400, Grimnir Magnar - then Grimnir Snow - broke the millennia-long prohibition on Skagosi that outlawed them from sailing the seas. Skagosi had sailed in that time, but if they were found to have done so, Skagos would have been invaded, as was the decree of Brandon IX.
Grimnir Magnar sailed to the aid of Queen Allyria Stark against the self-proclaimed Red King of the Boltons who rose against the Starks. This was the first time in essentially all of known history that a Skagosi had sailed to the aid of a Stark. Before this point their history had been of raiding the North and subsequently being denied access to the seas, with only one recorded rebellion. That rebellion lasted between 5 and 7 years, costing thousands of lives, 200 years ago.
Under these conditions, the population of Skagos had struggled to survive in such a desolate place, reverting to cannibalism at times. Grimnir Magnar took the opportunity to perhaps lessen the suffering of his people by taking the initiative and sailing to the aid of Queen Allyria Stark. His service and assistance were noted to the point that he managed to secure a meeting with the Queen alone. There, he laid bare the conditions of Skagos, the suffering of his people and the root of that coming from ancient Starks. ( What ? just some condition? if I had a privet audience like that...)
Queen Allyria, in her wisdom, saw that if the decree was revised in a different form, the Skagosi would be loyal until death for this change by her hand. She ruled the decree of Brandon IX over, allowing Skagosi to once again sail and sustain themselves without resorting to cannibalism. In the same stroke, she outlawed the practice. In return for this kindness, she charged House Magnar to assist the Night's Watch and to raid Beyond the Wall, with sole rights to do so at their own discretion.
As House Magnar had show the initiative and was humble enough to bow at her feet, Queen Allyria Stark appointed House Magnar as principal House of Skagos. This made Lord Magnar the High Lord of Skagos, to hold vassalage of the less compliant Houses of Skagos. She also charged him as the Warden of Skagos, to protect it from outside aggression and govern it on behalf of the Kingdom of the North. For his candor, the Queen legitimised Grimnir Snow to Grimnir Magnar, as he had been the one acting on behalf of his sickly Lord father.
Shortly after returning to Skagos, Grimnir Magnar organised the creation of the Thanes of the Crimson Tree. Additionally, settlers were brought to Skane and the other islands around Skagos. Building efforts were started, beginning with docks and then onto rebuilding Kingshouse. ( So this sacred order is on island of skane?)
Grimnir Magnar peacefully assumed the High Lordship of Skagos and Lordship of Kingshouse from his father Sven Magnar. Sven had been ill for a long time, which owed to his infertility. Being too sick to participate in any of the recent history of House Magnar, Grimnir assumed leadership of the House until when and if his father recovered.
The Stoneborn (or Skagosi or Skagossons) differ culturally to the other Northmen significantly. Shielded from outside influence for thousands of years due to stalwart isolationism, the Stoneborn are effectively a time capsule of the Old North.
In many ways the Stoneborn, including the Magnars, have as much common with Wildlings as Northmen, but would never consider themselves as Wildlings. However, this even visible difference can render Stoneborn discriminated against at times, being derisively called "Skaggs".
They have a deep respect and military tradition of service for the Night's Watch, given their direct proximity to the Wall, fuelled by the undiluted stories of the monsters beyond. Kingshouse is hewn into the rock of Skagos. The ancient First Men tradition of the "first night" is allegedly still practiced there. For a long time cannibalism was practised for the people to subsist in such a harsh place in bad times. However Queen Allyria Stark outlawed this practice as a condition of their freedom.
Physically, the Stoneborn are distinct to both Wildlings and Northmen, despite having direct lineage to the First Men. They are said to have blood which is related the Ibbenese or even giants. This is present in their above-average height and dark skin, despite the icy climate.
The mother tongue of the Magnars and Skagosi is the Old Tongue of the First Men. A species of giant goat is native to the island of Skagos, which have been dubbed "unicorns" due to the large horn that protrudes from their head. They are rare and kept exclusively by the nobles.
Skagosi appear superficially similar to the Ibbenese, with broad shoulders and chests. Their arms are long, while their legs are shorter and thicker than average. They have sloping brows with heavy ridges, small sunken eyes, great square teeth, and massive jaws.
However, unlike the shorter Ibbenese , Maesters have described Skagosi as also "partially descended from giants". I.E. they maintain their height as either average or above on the whole. This is likely due to the protein-based diet and active lifestyle, grown on seafood and "unicorn" meat. Additionally, Skagosi are known to have First Men blood.
Economy
The economy of the Magnars is self contained, in line with the isolationist policies of the Stoneborn Houses. They trade in dragonglass, unicorn horns, pelts and marine goods - such as seals, fish and crustaceans. Other than Dragonstone, Skagos is the only other place in Westeros known to have deposits of dragonglass. They were the only house granted access to the oceans. This has led to a massive uplift in resource abundance and trade to Skagos.

The Brothers
Grimnir Magnar was the Warden and High Lord of Skagos,(in the time when Starks were king) Lord of Kingshouse and Drohtin Thane of the Crimson Tree. He was the eldest living son of Sven Magnar. Once Grimnir Snow, he was legitimised by Queen Allyria Stark. He was the principle founder and Lord Commander of the Sacred Order of the Crimson Tree. He was the head of House Magnar. ( What is the order of crimson tree? it's sounds something interesting!!! But for some reason there lots of information about about Grimmnir magnar himself) His skin was a light tan, from his Ibbenese complexion. His body Was strong, owing to his upbringing sailing and hauling. He looked unkempt, not caring much for frilly robes and trimmed moustaches. However, the thick black body hair normally part of his people's complexion is shaved as it is annoying to him, itching on anything other than Skagosi cloth. ( what kind of man writes something like this?)
Skagosi appear superficially similar to the Ibbenese, with broad shoulders and chests. Their arms are long, while their legs are shorter and thicker than average. We have sloping brows with heavy ridges, small sunken eyes, great square teeth, and massive jaws. However, unlike the shorter Ibbenese, Maesters have described Skagosi as also "partially descended from giants". ( just one Maester who came here hundred years ago) they maintain their height as above average on the whole. This is likely due to the protein-based diet and active lifestyle, grown on seafood and *other* types of meat. Additionally, Skagosi are known to have First Men blood.
Grimnir was like the rest of his kin. Untamed. Wild. Perhaps even more carnal than the Wildlings in some aspects. Brutish would be a word that springs to mind. His mind is as would be expected from someone of his stature, resolute, unshaking. His general goal was to further his house and protect its interests from the other Skagosi. Well, that's my goal too.
Following his rise at the hand of Queen Allyria, he is now a loyal vassal to the Stark. His goals have changed to be in the interests of all his subjects, having risen to the seat of High Lord. Grimnir's personality has changed over the year of being in contact with civilisation, become more well rounded than the animal he once was.
Grimnir was the first living son of Sven, Lord of Kingshouse and one of the ladies he took the First Night from. Grimnir was raised by his adoptive father and mother. He was a good sailor and a stronger hauler, moving goods around the island for trade on his back. He learned reading and writing. The old ways, the old tongue and ancient skills were what he was taught.
Sven, his father, was renowned for his infertility. Sven had a string of stillbirths with his wife, they had horrific defects to their bodies and died soon after birth. Such a thing was unheard-of before for the Magnars, leading Sven to believe his line was cursed.
It got to the point that he decided to take his strongest living children in to maintain the line, wherever they were, determined to beat this perceived curse.
After ordering his land searched for his bastards, it seemed the problem was with his seed, all that he had to show was two bastard sons and a bastard girl, after many years of the First Night.
There was a 22 year old Grimnir, a 14 year old Harald and a 3 year old Freya. This would do, thought Sven. The curse wasn't a curse after all. Harald refused to go, causing Sven to order his adoptive father beaten until the child begged him to stop.
Grimnir gritted his teeth and said nothing, yielding to his Lord, for Sven was the one with the levies and fighting men on his side. Grimnir spent the next two years being taught how to read and write and all the things an heir would need. Clearly, that wasn't enough time. He preferred sailing, fighting and the more carnal pleasures in life.
He was awarded a captaincy on the Devourer, learning the treacherous seas of Skagos and how to read them better than any letters. The use of the old tongue to communicate was something he enforced upon the ship.
Dreadfort Siege and Allyria's Decree:
Grimnir broke Brandon IX's decree on the 23rd Day, 8th Moon, Year 400. He sailed for the mainland, up the Weeping Water and landed at the Dreadfort. Blockading the mouth of the river with the ships his people had built in secret for fishing, he joined Queen Allyria's encampment.
There he led the survey of the Weeping Water and planned diversions to help drive out the Dreadfort defenders. For his assistance, he was granted an audience with Queen Allyria Stark. Presenting the case of his homeland, Queen Allyria rescinded the decree of Brandon IX.
She charged House Magnar in return to be the Wardens and High Lords of Skagos in perpetuity, to protect it from attack and to govern in the name of House Stark. In addition, she mandated that Skagos assist the Night's Watch and in-line with that purpose, granted them sole raiding rights of Beyond the Wall and parts of Essos.
Grimnir founded the Thanes of the Crimson Tree, also known as the Sacred Order of the Crimson Tree. He organised projects for building Skagos into a higher standard of civilisation. Grimnir also arranged for settlers to land on the islands around Skagos in the name of the Magnars. Soon after, he assumed the titles of his father Lord Sven Magnar and became the new Lord Magnar.
But one day Upon receiving a mysterious summons from Beyond the Wall, Grimnir travelled to the Haunted Forest. There he met Erick Stark, Jorlan Hightower, Aren Stark, Argos Tully, Maester Marcus and others. Together they travelled to the Land of Always Winter to gather intelligence on an ancient threat.
Upon finding a long-dead city inside a mountain, the Fellowship realise after exploring that it is the site of a massacre. Inside the keep of the city, a corpse sits on a throne. In its chest, is embedded a spear of ice. At the behest of the party, Grimnir goes to take the unknown spear. He immediately collapses and has a vision, his eyes turning permanently blue from their original Skagosi black.
The he killed rest of his companions one by one, And spared one. The man that wrote all this. The Maester Marcus.
Damn.... So my favorite ancestor become a white walker ?
Also I believe that nobody believed the Maester Marcus when he returned. So he settled in this island.
