The Question of Inheritance

Thanks to Anthem and Melody, Noir's situation was somewhat stable while Delta drove them home. Solis clutched Noir in his arms, gently but firmly and refused to let go. However, seeing the desperate look on the usually impassive and cold face of Boss Solis and the pale, almost deathly face of the usually smiling and vivacious Noir – neither Delta nor Jovis could bear to tell Solis to put Noir down. Also, the way Solis held on to Noir ensured that Noir was moved as little as possible – which was essential.

In the car, Jovis told Solis, "That attack was meant for you – you may already have guessed that, I suppose."

Solis simply nodded listlessly, his eyes fixed on the limp, bloodied figure in his arms.

Jovis sighed. "It was the work of a demi god," he said quietly. "I don't know how they managed to find you even without you awakening your powers. But now that they have, life is about to get very dangerous for you and Noir both."
