V. The heir

Chapter 5

"S-see you around, Miss Wright." and with that, he ran like he was no different than Flash. I even saw how he wiped his temple which was full of sweats as he ran. With that, I winced a bit for that very, very awkward meeting.

I pray to God that we'll never meet again.

After that weird guy is out of my sight, I slowly turned my head to check for any suspicious people. Thank goodness I am alone.

Quickly, I made my way upstairs since obviously, all bedrooms can be found there. I need to find Mr. Douglas Bennett's room as fast as possible so that I can kill him and I pray he's with Miss Dolores so she can help me.

While walking down the corridor, I heard a loud sigh behind me.

Please don't let me meet any weird guys, please. I swear to heavens above!

With my palm sweating, I turned to face whoever that is.

I was bewildered to see Martha, the woman who I first met when I woke here in this stupid era.

She suspiciously stared at me, her hands full with two teacups and an elegant teacup. I bet they worth a million.

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be resting?" she asked, her brow raising.

I turned my eyes sideways and shrugged, "I-i just can't...you know, digest seeing you guys working so hard while I do nothing,"

God, I am just so bad at lying. Grandpa kept telling me that.

Though Martha seems not to realize that for she mustered a huge smile and said, "Don't you worry, child, we're fine. Now, shoo~" then waved her hand rhythmically.

"B-but," I just uttered this so I can look really, really convincing but I almost frowned to death when I heard what Martha said next.

"If you insist then here you go. Deliver this to Mr. Augustus Bennett's study room," then handed me the golden tray.

Uh-oh. I really do have a hard time balancing things. Plus, I don't know anything about this house.

Martha was about to turn right towards this maze-like mansion when I asked her where Mr. Augustus Bennett's study room is.

She rolled her eyes comically then looked at me like I was just messing around with her but I guessed she realized I am not for she kept her face straight and told me where the hell it is.

I bid goodbye to her and in returned, she thanked me. Her smile broad.

I am starting to regret this already for I don't want to trip myself carrying this expensive teacups and teapots.

Tell you what, I almost stumbled to death while holding this golden tray.

And now, I am currently facing the wooden door right now, with my racing heart, I knocked the door. Twice or thrice? I don't know, I lose count. I am nervous!

Perhaps that's the reason why the door flew open and I am guessing because of my deafening knocks and in front of me is the guy who I stumbled upon a while ago. You know, the weird and awkward guy.

He stared at me for 10 seconds straight then lifts his hat, I replied him a quick nod.

I cannot help myself from raising both my brows from surprise, don't tell me he's Augustus Bennett, the son of the guy I need to kill.

Suddenly, I have this weird feeling that I should bow before him and beg for his forgiveness, "Sorry, Augustus or whatever you're name is for I need to murder your dear father as soon as possible. Whether you like it or not."

But sadly, I am a chicken.

He just stared at me...again...and awkwardly. The hell.

"U-uh," I uttered, looking at my right to avoid deeper awkwardness.

The awkward guy then faked a cough which made me secretly rolled my eyes again. There he goes again.

I felt like running and I can feel my palms getting more sweaty and perhaps that's what he felt as well because I can see tiny sweats running down his temple again. Well, except from running because 'till now, he's stuck in his place.

I somehow want to punch him in his arm and say, "can you please stop being awkward?"

"Who is it?" hollered the guy inside the room which made us both looked at him.

The guy who just shouted is now staring at the very awkward guy while raising his brow but then his eyes slowly diverted towards me.

And wow, I almost let go of this tray for this guy sure is handsome. Those blue eyes I can swim to. Those thick eyebrows and sharp jawline. And oh my, I am rooting for his beautiful blond hair.

Perhaps he realized that I was staring at him for too long when he chuckled a bit and said the most annoying thing I've ever heard from any guy I've met.

This handsome fella quickly rose from his seat as soon as he caught a glimpse of a lady like me and bow. I awkwardly returned the bow, telling myself to please don't look really, really stupid towards this handsome fella.

I am still not used to victorian etiquettes. That's okay, it's still my first day. There's always a room for improvement.

"Oh, I see, finally, the merMAID of this household is awake!" he uttered then released another annoying laugh. Emphasizing the word 'maid'

Forget what I just said, he is ugly! Inside and out!

"What are you talking about?" I asked, my brow raising. I intend to raise it as high as I can.

I can tell he was shocked from how I just acted. Oh, I forgot, I need to pretend I am meek. A genuine Victorian lady despite the fact that I am only a maid here.

"O-oh, good day, whoever you are but may I know what you're talking about?" I uttered, fighting off the urge to kiss him. I mean, you know to slap him and demand for his answer immediately.

"Don't you remember, you drowned yourself last week but thanks to-" he didn't have the chance to finished his statement that is unworthy to my glamorous ears when the awkward guy faked another coughed.

His hands behind him. His top hat on the side of the table.

"Mister Bennett, I would appreciate it if you kindly cover your face with that tacky hat of yours," I exclaimed.

Once again, both their eyes immediately widened from what just came out from my mouth.

To tell you the truth, I am also bewildered from what I just said. How dare I spoke to my boss like that. Didn't I learn anything from the silly book Miss Dolores kept on giving me? But then I remember I barely read it so yeah, technically, I really did not learn anything.

My thoughts were cut off when this awkward guy once again faked another cough. Is coughing a huge trend right now in Victorian era? If so then why isn't it mentioned in the book? But then I remember once again that I didn't read the book so yeah, you know the drill.

Due to frustration, "What the hell's wrong with you?! Taking medicine to ease that annoying cough of yours won't hurt!" I hollered to the awkward guy which made him very, very shocked.

Well, I don't care! As if I'm trying to impress them.

The awkward guy slash cough-obsessed guy and the annoying slash conceited guy are now staring at me with...amusement in their eyes?

The annoying guy then released another peeving and demonic laugh which made me more annoyed.

"You are something, Miss Wright," he added. His arms crossed as he stares at my face as if I am some sort of lab rat and is hoping for any transformation.

"Well, I hope that's a compliment, Mister," I replied. "Or else..." I quietly added, intending for them not to hear it.

But it seems like this conceited guy hearing-skills is quite good for he said, "Or else what, Miss Wright?"

"Or else i'll feed you to the wolves, Mister." I boldly said, hoping they'll take it as a joke even though we all know jokes are half-meant.

The two Victorian men in front of me almost lost their balance from what I just uttered. Oops. I guess they never heard of jokes. Heck, what's wrong with them?

"Just kidding, Mister. Please don't take it seriously." I said, followed by a forced chuckle.

I rolled my eyes heavenwards once again and continued my very agenda in this stupid room.

I went straight to the table in the side which is far from them but I don't care! I know I should be putting this to the table nearest to them but I don't care.

I quickly laid the tray in the table carefully for I don't want to break the teapot and the teacups! Although I have this urged to throw it to towards the gentle dogs behind me due to frustration.

I guess I was really annoyed to the point I didn't notice them walking towards me.

The awkward guy who is still looking sideways has his hands in his pockets while the annoying guy chuckled again and said, "I didn't know you're hotheaded."

"And besides, how come you don't know me? You're completely mistaken, Miss Wright. My friend here is not Au-" Goodness gracious, all I ever want right now is to escape this conversation and this room.

"Look, Mister, just drink this tea along with that awkward friend of yours," I commented, my arms crossed.

"Hope you didn't put a poison in this," this guy sure is testing the hell out of me.

"Don't worry, dog's urine is enough," I said then mustered a devilish smirk.

I have a feeling they're about to say something especially the annoying guy who can't seem to keep his mouth shut but poor them, I immediately ran towards the exit.

But while I was running away from those two, I heard the annoying guy hollered at me, "Get back here!"

Followed with, "Aren't you gonna pour the tea for us?"

What? Don't they have any hands?

And I did even hear the awkward guy faked another cough.

By the time I am in the maid's chamber, I quickly slumped to the nearest bed and let out a loud sigh.

Gosh, I didn't know there's such thing as annoying victorian men.

Then it hit me, one of them is the son of Mr. Douglas Bennet which only means one of them is my boss.

Not only that, while replying the whole scenes in my head, that's where I noticed I interrupted the guy while he was speaking and I also did run away from them without any permission which only means I did officially break two of the rules in living a proper Victorian lady should.

Shoot!

I don't want to get fired!
