Chapter 16

Nothing much had changed, though they confessed to each other it was still as they were in the beginning just more comforting.

Day by day their feelings grew as they went one with each other in their lives.

Deciding to keep their relationship a secret, for now, they went on secret dates and hung out more often.

As months went by guilt ate away at the female.

Despite growing fond of Ace and all her coworkers she lived in constant fear of them finding out her betrayal.

She loved her new life and wanted to keep it the same though soon that would be crushed as harsh reality will come down crashing the life Perla had longed for her whole life.

As much as she knew that this wasn't meant to be, she couldn't help but fall for Ace.

Guilt ate her away as she thought about the lies she had been telling friends ever since they met.

It wasn't supposed to turn out like this.

She wasn't supposed to get attached.

This was supposed to be a game.

Not something that became real.

Fake.

It was supposed to be fake.

She grew to love them.

Growing up not knowing her parents, in an orphanage full of hatred she never experienced love.

It hurt her knowing that this feeling of happiness wouldn't last...

all because of her.

As the months had passed she had learned about Ace's past with an abusive drug addict father and a cunning mother who wanted to protect him.

She was happy that he had trusted her enough to open up but she also hated it knowing that all that trust he had for her will be wiped away because of her.

As the months progressed the Fire Dragons had become an even bigger threat to the agency putting everyone on edge as they worked hard trying to locate them.

Of course Zen had also grew closer to them as they met whenever they could making Zen and Edna notice the change of atmosphere around Perla and Ace.

Edna was of course overjoyed though she didn't want anyone in on Perla and Ace's privacy so she had kept quite though Zen was jealous.

Jealousy ate him away as he saw his best friend, the girl he grew to love, fall for another guy right before his eyes.

Jealousy clouded his eyes blinding him as he decided to take matter into his own hands.

With this new found jealousy he decided to 'help' Ace find the Fire Dragons.

Ace never really cared about the gang, it was just his job though as he listened in on Perla's secret calls with the so called 'Cats Vet' person he had figured out who she worked for.

With the information he had discovered he wanted for her to be free, without having to work for the gang.

To have a happy ever-after.

Those only happened in fairy-tales.

They weren't meant for everyone.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.

She didn't care.

They were just titles after all.

---------------------------------------

"Ugh your so annoying I hate you" Perla rolled her eyes a smile on her lips as she looked down at her phone.

"I love you too" Ace purred smirking at her as her eyes widened, along with his as he realized he had admitted to falling in love with the girl.

Silence fell around them as the long brown haired female turned her head to look up at him smirking at her.

"You heard me" he teased recollecting his composure as he searched her eyes for an answer.

"Say it again" Perla ordered looking at his shocked expression.

"I love y-" before he could say it again Perla tugged on his collar interlocking their lips into a sweet loving kiss.

"I love you too" she pulled away giving him a close eyed smile.

Her smile quickly dropped.

Everything came back to her head as guilt once again ate her away.

Ace quickly noticed the sudden change of the female's mood as he grabbed her chin gently forcing her to look at his concerned expression.

"what wrong? if your not ready I understand you didn't have to say it back" he quickly explained making his shake her head no profusely as she forced a strained smile onto her face to reassure him.

"Nothing, I am ready I just remembered uh, that my cat threw up this morning and i was just concerned its okay though I called the vet and she just had a cold." she lied.

He could tell she was lying though he decided not to push her further. He smiled again wrapping his arm around her as he pulled her closer to him as she rested her head on his shoulder making him rest his head on hers as he stroked her long brown hair.

She soon doze of into a deep sleep as he picked her up, bridal style, bringing her to his bed that was situated in his room at the agency.

He placed a kiss on her forehead as he went out the room making his way outside as he grabbed his guns and weapons.

He got on his motorcycle as he went of super fast towards his destination.

---------------------

An hour passed as Perla woke up from her nap in Ace's bed. She looked around rubbing her eyes as she adjusted to the bright surrounding light.

"Ace" she called out as she got up knocking on the bathroom door as she got no response, knocking once again she opened the door slowly peeking her head through to find the bathroom and the shower empty.

It was quite weird for Ace to leave with no context or note.

She left his room closing the door as she looked around the underground facility continuously calling him and texting him with no response.

She felt uneasy as a knot grew in her stomach as she started asking the other agents.

Her phone rung as she quickly picked it up.

"Perla I'm sorry I did something bad" Zen's voice rung out into her ear making her heart drop.

"What did you do?" Perla questioned her voice low.

"I gave Ace the location of the Fire Dragons boss...." he explained his voice low as Perla's face scrunched in horror.

"haha funny joke now say sike" she laughed trying to reassure herself.

"Listen I'm sorry I don't know what came over me please forgive me it's not a joke." he begged making her bitterly chuckle at his betrayal.

"I thought you were my friend... hahah keep begging I'll drag you to hell with me if Ace is hurt" the female bitterly laughed as she threatened her so called friend as she ended the call rushing down the halls as she ran to the elevator making her way up onto the small shop and out onto the parking lot.

She quickly got in her sports car not caring about anything as she went at top speed towards the Fire Dragons disguised building that their boss spent the time at.

She strapped her guns, and grabbing two submachine guns she will soon use if anyone got in her way.

She broke the rules with her reckless driving not caring as she ran into the tall building her two submachine guns in hand pointed everywhere as she shot all the guards a stern expression on her face as she ran towards the stairs after finishing of everyone making her way to the highest floor.

it was getting dark as the city lights looked like millions of stars from up high, it was truly a beautiful night.

Twenty minutes passed as she finally made it to the top floor that contained her boss.

She walked through the door onto the highest floor spotting more guards as she used her last of the two guns to finish them all off.

She ran to the bosses body the knot in her stomach growing as she flung the door open.

The sight before her made her world crumble.

All the memories made with Ace resurfacing as she stared at her boss who had been holding a gun against Ace's body that had already been shot once, in the stomach as he held the wound.

"Oh Perla way to join the party" her boss cheerfully smiled.

"now watch me finish him off" he looking at her and then back at Ace's now limp body.

"STOP" Perla lunged forward grabbing the gun strapped to her thigh.

Her movements were slow.

It was too late.

The bullet made contact with Ace's chest as he looked at Perla lovingly mouthing "I love you" as he fell onto the ground a loud thud echoing as his eyes closed shut.
