Unleashing the hero within

We all live in a world where we try to survive by all means possible, even if it means doing the cruelest things. The world we live in is no longer safe now, you can't even trust anyone. In the world I live in, we all emerged from one creator and we used to live in perfect harmony untill our world changed. About twenty years ago, before I was born, our world was a wonderful place to live in. Our creator blessed us with special powers for the sake of using it to help one another. Our world was filled with goodness. Everybody was friendly and we had no worries untill some people started rebelling against the creator. They wanted to be like the creator and he cursed them. He removed the goodness from them and their hearts were now filled with great evil. They took the lives of so many good people and when we called to our creator for help, he didn't answer us. We now realized that we were on our own. We fought against the bad people and we won. Our world then divided into two, the hero world and villain world.

Villains were to never step foot into hero world again. The heroes then created a school that would train selected students in line of heroes in order for them to be prepared in case the Villains struck again. The hero world became strong and they were always on watch because we lived in a world where you can no longer trust anyone.

The world is screwed but I believe there are still some people you can trust... "Vanessa you're going to be late for your entrance examination into Heroes Academy if you keep sleeping like a log," she reluctantly got up and wavered.

"Dad, I'm exhausted!" She fell back on the bed and pretended to be fast asleep by making a snoring sound. It wasn't actually her fault that she refused to get up, she was very exhausted. She and her father were up for days. They were training for her upcoming entrance examination into Heroes Academy. Although he had been training her since she was six years old, he still saw the need for extra practice now that the supposed day was approaching.

He folded his arms and moved close to her bed an chuckled. He placed his hand above her and caused a cloud to appear. Water dropped from the cloud and she jumped from the bed. "Dad!" She looked at him angrily and stormed out of the room to take her bath.

They arrived at the Academy and he left her to enter alone because guardians weren't allowed inside. It felt so sad for him to leave his daughter. She would be away from home for months. She had always been with him for sixteen years, it was really a hard one for him.

Robert Storm used to be a teacher in the Heroes Academy but he retired after his wife died. He was so devastated when that incident occurred but he soon got over it and it was then he started training his daughter. He was full with high hopes that she was going to be accepted into the school because he thought her all that she needed to know about passing the entrance examination.

"Good day to you all. Today, we are taking new students into Heroes Academy. If you pass the entrance examination, you will be admitted into this great school. And you'll have to be exceptional before you can pass this examination. The first stage is to show off with your powers. If your powers are outstanding, only then will you go to stage two. Stage two requires you to save a citizen. If you succeed, you move on to stage three. In stage three, which is the last stage, you are required to create a portal that can last for more than sixty seconds. Seems easy right? If you pass this final stage, then you'll become a student of Heroes Academy. Let the test begin. Good luck to all of you," this seemed simple for Vanessa because her father had taught her all of these. It was going to be a walkover, she thought to herself. It soon reached her turn to show off her powers.

"Hello, I'm Vanessa Storm. My power is..."

"Please I would prefer it if you illustrated it," she looked at the instructor and pursed her lips.

"I would prefer telling you first cuz, I have more than one superpower. I have psychokinesis, telepathy, I can form shields and I can also control the weather," the instructor removed his glasses from his eyes and looked at her in astonishment. He put on his glasses again and snapped his fingers.

"Dazzle me, Ms Storm," she then placed two fingers at the temple of her head and closed her eyes. She used her mind power to move the table in which the instructor had placed his books. She removed her hand from her head and opened her eyes. Her eyes turned purple and her hair flowed upwards. She moved her hands in a circular motion and the clouds started coming together, it became dark and droplets of rain started coming down from the clouds. She moved her hands sideways and a purple shield was formed around her, which prevented the rain from touching her. Her eye colour changed to the normal grey colour and the clouds brightened again. The rain stopped falling and she pushed her hand forward to remove her shield. She used her psychokinesis to return the table to its formal position and closed her eyes again.

"You're wondering who the heck this amazing girl is and... the half spoilt pizza you ate for breakfast is now upsetting your stomach," the instructor removed the glasses from his eyes again and opened his mouth in surprise. He clapped slowly after regaining his senses. "Bravo! Ms Storm, you can move on to the next stage."

The second stage was for her to save a citizen. The next instructor set a dummy that was in the midst of fake wild animals and she was to save the dummy to prevent the wild animals from tearing it into pieces. She was given two minutes to complete the task.

"This is too easy," she threw several pounds of flesh on the ground and the animals ran to eat the meat. She picked up the dummy and handed it over to the instructor. "You're quite intelligent Ms Storm," he snapped his finger and the illusion of the wild animals faded away. He gave her a card with the final stage written on it. She went to the next instructor and showed him her card.

"Go ahead, create your portal and let it last for three minutes,"

"But sir... it's supposed to be just one minute," he stood up from his chair and gave her a frightening look. He was really scary. She shook inside but acted bold.

"Ms Storm, are you questioning my ruling power?"

"No, sir," she faked a smile and closed her eyes. She focused for a few seconds and opened her eyes again. She inhaled and exhaled. "I can do this, Vanessa, you've got this," she said to herself. She stretched her right hand forward and separated her fingers. A purple portal started appearing and it soon became very big. The instructor set his time to five minutes. He was just against her for no reason. He pushed the walls of the portal to come close to each other with his psychokinesis, which made the portal become smaller and smaller. "What's happening? I'm totally focused and I've done this several times," she pushed her other hand forward and she put more effort, making the portal wider. He fought back and pushed the portal together. She put all her strength, it was now as if she was trying to pull down a wall with her hands. She started losing her strength but she didn't give up. She continued pushing to make sure that the portal didn't close up. He smirked and said to himself.

"Now, let me see you pass this test Ms Storm,"
